Why is there so much unwarranted banter about starting Justin Fields?

Until he proves he can consistently beat the blitz, he'll be in the reserve role. That was his major weakness in college and until he learns the offense well enough and demonstrates that he can beat the blitz on a consistent basis, (along with not holding onto the ball too long) they will try to let him take his lumps on the practice field and in the classroom. With his intelligence, hopefully that doesn't take too long.

Jags and Jets are throwing their rookie QBs to the wolves, so we should be lemmings and follow suit?

Fields doesn’t HAVE to start for us right away. And that’s a good thing...

It might be as simple as saying that the Jags and the Jets earned their draft spots by sucking ass. Lawrence is the most highly touted QB prospect since Andrew Luck so there's no question you're going to play him from day 1. The Jags wouldn't have been in position to draft him if they had anyone else worth a shit at the position.

Wilson is a different story but the Jets are in the same boat: their QB position is/was terrible even if Darnold still has a little hope left for him.

People might be saying that Fields needs to learn the position or whatever because the Bears are actually in position to compete for the playoffs, and if things go well, even make a run. That's not the case with the Jags and Jets so it's not like they'll gain or lose anything by sitting their guys to start.

All that said, I think you're onto something there with regard to Fields himself. The dude has only done everything asked of him and has done it really well. He had no business falling to #11 let alone being told that "oh he might not be ready." If anyone from this class is ready to take a starting job from the jump, I think it's Lawrence and him.
Yeah, part of it is those guys were picked 1-2. It's rare to see guys picked top 3 sit the bench.

Also, do we actually know that Wilson and Lawrence are week 1 starters? Have the coaches announced that? Or is this just speculation and expectations from fans and commentators?

If they haven't said it, it's a pretty safe assumption.

Trevor Lawerence was the #1 overall pick for a team that's desperate for a QB.

If the Jet's hadn't traded Darnold... There would be a debate there too.

There is a debate about Trey Lance.

There is a debate about Justin Fields (mostly b/c Nagy named Dalton the starter).

The whole notion that Fields is being disrespected somehow because people are debating the HC's decision not to name him a starter is dumb af.

Chicago is a large market. Bears fans are excited about Fields. Excited fans equal clicks and eyeballs.

The Jets and Jags don't have Andy Dalton in the way that's why

Because your head coach said in a press conference that he will not start and then confirmed that in another press conference. Then people disagree. Then there is a controversy. It's that simple.

He also said publicly about implementing Ohio State schemes into the offense in an interview in May. Who is the audience, why does he feel the necessity to make these announcements. Just coach the team.

Why an announcement in April that he will go back to calling the plays? This is all weird to me. Coach your team.

The Bears aren't known for their quarterback prowess. Every. Single. One. has sucked. I would question it too if I wasn't so enamored with JF1.

We can assume all we like, but until the coach says so, we're kind of debating something using a premise we don't actually know.

Personally, I'd guess that both Wilson and Lawrence start too, but it is just a guess.
Wait, that's a bad thing? Okay then, I'll lay off the pocket-pool at the drive-through. Friggin' freedom haters.
You could always treat yourself to a morning jack.

Unless they are injured it’s pretty much a guarantee that they both start the first game. …..in my opinion
