If Yadier was healthy either of the past two years, he probably would have started the all star game.

Hard to say. Players gain momentum in fan votes and really it takes a super season or a bomb season to change it.

It was more popular choice before but fans are becoming more educated with advanced metrics now.

well, we watched cub fans vote the entire starting infield to an all star game, so it shows that cub fans are jaded and dont care who is earning the spots with their first half play.

Takes more than Cub fan votes to win a ASG bid. That year was hype train and everyone jumped on.

So my question is...if the cubs are trying to trim payroll...why would Contreras be the one to move? I get that he could bring back some solid pitching talent, but it won’t help them trim salary. Whereas Bryant getting moved would, and would bring back just as good of pitching prospects or better.

And forget about signing grandal after trading Contreras...not going to happen if payroll is truly an issue for the cubs.

Epstein has been pretty clear that they're trying to do a combat reload to smooth and minimize the transition to their next window. They're not trying to trim payroll for payroll's sake.

Bryant would be a payroll reducer whereas Contreras would be a farm stock move. With the amount of control that Contreras has left, he could bring back almost as much as Bryant.

Agreed. At the same time it’s pretty clear they want to be under the luxury tax threshold next year as well.

Well, yeah. Since they know they're not going to be WS contenders next year (they'll still contend for the division), it makes sense to get back under the threshold to reset the escalating penalties for when they do contend again.

Right, and all I’m saying is trading Contreras does not achieve that goal.
