If we continue to pay overslot each year the rebuild won't take long.

I hope we don't go into a rebuilding phase. I always look forward to Cubs season. So if we're gonna be rebuilding I know there will be no hope, so I won't be nearly excited for a new season. We should just sign Ramirez to 3-4 more years and pick up some FA's and get pitching help. Hopefully the new GM won't go into rebuilding mode.

Rays were in their rebuilding phase went they went huge... And our offensive tools are really young :Castro, Jackson, kind soto, LaHair, maybe even campana. So the main place that needs work is the corners and the starting rotation

The problem with the smaller franchises is that they can snag all the high draft picks, but can't fill roster holes with quality free agents so they end up not being able to contend and then lose their prospects to other teams and have to do it again. We would hope that is not the case for the Cubs. Hopefully new GM has a plan. We'll see.

Chicago should NEVER rebuild. A team in a big market shouldn't even have that word in their vocabulary.

Why? Other than "they have lots of money and should spend it"?

I am sure he would not take the Sox job. Given the choice between the two, he would take the Cubs job.

But that would be fun to see. Would Cub fans turn on their hero if he coaches the "hated" white sox?

If the Cubs get rid of all the players a majority of the fans want (Soriano, Byrd, Ram, Pena) and play the players that the fans are calling for (Colvin, Campana, Jackson, LaHair) along with the current group of kids that are playing everyday (Castro and Barney) that is a rebuilding phase team.

Rammy has said he will not come back if the Cubs are in rebuild mode, so fans must chose what they want.

That gives me an idea

I think it'd be hilarious. Especially if the 2012 Sox team doesn't suck.

Big market teams should have the resources to keep a competitive team every year. No questions asked.

Well, seeing as everyone's an expert on how the billionaire should spend his money... But quantifying how much they have to throw at the team to plug up all the glaring holes in the rotation, the lineup etc makes me think that the guy who got rich by knowing how to invest his money wisely should practice just that. If he's going to be owning this team and keeping it in the family for generations, it might not be a bad idea to make sure the foundation is solid before he throws more money at band-aids.

After what the Cubs did to him? I think he would take the Sox job over the Cubs. Overall it's a better job at this point.

Regardless, Sandberg is a winner as a coach. I think he would be a winner as a MLB skipper too. And that hurts a little as someone who hates the Cubs
