....soooooo....
...not the White Sox then.
Nowhere near Chicago. Haha

Shows how much of a suck up he is to the Cubs...grow a pair & go to a team that has a chance to win in 2012.
that's another thing about Wood I don't understand. Surely he wants to try to win a World Series before he retires. If he left for a year to, say, Philly, he'd still be welcome back with open arms regardless of how he came back to Chicago (to play, to coach, retired, etc).
Perhaps he prefers the pressure-free situation with the Cubs?
I think he, like Dempster, just prefers to be in Chicago in a good family situation. I guess that's more important to some people than a championship, even if it's a headscratcher.
Think about that statement and then think about who the Sox GM is.

What I said last year when he signed was yes, its a PR move for the Cubs.
I also stated that he gets his **** stroked by adoring fans here, he is basically a mascot for the north side. In Philly, NY, BOS, LA all he is...well...is a middle reliever. The fans in those cities wouldnt be worshipping him. I assume he likes the attetion he gets here, where no one would give a **** elsewhere.
Wood would've been a good pickup for any team, including the Cubs. On top of that, he's definitely a fan-favorite, and will most likely work in the majors (probably for the Cubs) after his playing days have ended.
I agree as he should be a cub employee for life. But it happens for all fan bases of all sports in chicago, we fall in love with mediocrity and cling to some individual achievments. we all may be loyal, but we all look like fools most of the time.
I don't think I would have cared if Kerry Wood had left the Cubs, but the contract that brought him back was fair to both the team and the player. It wasn't like Wood was being paid like Ryan Madson.
For what he's being paid and what he's being asked to do, in the context of the rest of the team's potential suckitude this coming season, it's really not that big of a deal.
