You might want to rethink what you are calling profit. Your time spent on this is worth something...

I would probably go no higher than $2 for a CD of an unproven artist that randomly approaches me.

That being said, my advice to you would be to invest in a couple videos & shoot them out to every outlet possible (worldstar, hotnewhiphop, complex, kollege kid, etc...). You should also use your youtube, instagram, facebook, & twitter accounts to send your video(s) viral. People are more inclined to invest time/money into you if they see you on a video, opposed to simply listening to a track of yours.

Once you develop a fanbase, it will be easier for you to sell your CDs. Also, you should look into pushing a mixtape via livemixtapes or datpiff once you create a following.

Matter of fact, you should probably post your videos on this forum or any other forums that you're registered to.

EDIT TO ADD:

I just looked you up after failing to see your name on the first page of this thread. You seem to have done most of the things I suggested above.

BTW, you got a nice flow & good luck to you, man. Keep grindin bro.

1.00 to 3.00 is a good price. remember one thing, the money you spent is promotion money...look at it as an investment.

Not any more. I bought a CD from a coworker who said his kid was in a band and that I would probably like it. The band was good but the vocals WERE TERRIBLE. Funny thing is, I didn't know his kid was doing vocals and told him I couldn't listen because the vocals suck lol. It was one of those death metal bands with deep growling vocals that are the exact same through the entire song. Basically sounded like he was sing through a belch.

$5 ain't shit. Mofos be spending that on lattés, even the children.

Stick to your guns and charge $5. And then find a way to let your CCS brethren support you with a purchase.

Meant to speak on this, I am from New Orleans. So, needless to say, I get approached a lot by random people trying to sell their music. I usually haggle with them and get it for free. I have a paid a couple of times. They always want 5, but I will never pay that. I learned my lesson the first time when I gave them 5 and it had 2 tracks on the CD about two minutes each. I would say you could go with 5, but be willing to haggle with someone or be able to come down on it. Its promotion. Letting the right person hearing it is more important then getting back a couple of dollars. Also, not being racist or anything because I am white. But, you being white may throw some people off. So you are going to have to push real hard. Its not anything against you. Just society has certain personas and if you don't fit the mold people don't want to give a chance.

I wouldn't call myself a hip hop fan but the video posted in this forum is not bad, kinda hard to stop listening actually lol. Best of luck in your sales and with your future goals, don't give up if it Gets tough, just keep grinding.

Probably one of my worst vids but thanks man. I filmed it in 60fps like a dumb ass instead of 24fps so it looks weird.
