A degree means nothing when you still don't know the real world material.
SI's fortunate is a JOKE.
Kobe for example.
SI says he's making
10m for last season through endorsements.
He's signed with Nike for 5 years, 40m. That's 8m a year for shoe deal. Plus he gets a kicker deal, bonuses for contributions, and side money from advertising campaigns.
McDonalds for 3 years, 15million. Tally that to 13 million! But how?? SI said 10? Oh right.. SI is garbage for these numbers, for very good reasoning too.
That doesn't count all of the memorabilia companies, being one of the faces of the NBA, Spalding, , 2K sports, Foot Locker, Cameo spots for TV shows/networks/commercials, appearances, itemized freebies, ect ect ect.
Unfortunately for us, this information isn't spelled out in fine detail on the internet on a one stop source. SI wont put the time and money to make their list accurate, so why would anyone really care to do the leg work? Athletes want their privacy too, unless their Greg Oden, who's willing to bare all. Seriously go back and do your homework before you throw out insults.
I can understand how you are mistaken if you're information is bunked. But come on, someone with a degree in business should know better. You would be fired if you took your metrics from "fortunate" and applied them to endorsement values.
A.) The only players with values listed, are the ones revealed by their agencies.
B.) NO Player reveals their full endorsement values.
C.) Not all players put the same level of effort in excepting and searching for side money.
D.) Wealth building values through endorsement money that is recycled into a for-profit business, is not scaled with the end-of-year release values.
E.) Non-Profit foundries benefit from endorsement deals, and also get around the end of year estimates.
F.) Signings, resale profits of memorabilia are also endorsements, not just "shoes".
I looked at more than one site. They broke down the information better and they have been doing it for years now. But I think I made my point. Now you want to tell me Lamar Odom makes that type of money by signing jerseys and appearing on the Kardashian show? I don't think so. If you look at the list and the sources, all that you included are estimated in that piece.
You should explain why you used a contract Kobe signed that expired a couple of years ago to prove your point. My point was that JJ is a fraction of what does guys are when it comes to star power, and with the exception of Kobe, quite a bit older than the top earners in the NBA. The initial point still stands. If you give that type of business advice to Joe Johnson...he fires you...period. Lebron? Sure. He makes more than 120mil...Rose? Sure. Joe Johnson? Heck NO!
Expecting Joe Johnson to play here at about $.60 to $1.00 is over the top. Then saying that he can make up that 40% on endorsements as what the second, third guy on the Bulls (fourth to Madison Avenue behind Noah, who is infinitely more marketable...) just won't work because he is not that high caliber a player.
