Would you trade the Bears 1st round pick for a pass rusher?

I was on board with the Bears trading down last year and getting more picks....not sure if that was the best choice in retrospect but I think I am always skeptical of the Bears drafting the right players. I don't think this year's draft class is all that great, and I think if the Bears could get someone like Maxx Crosby for their 1st round pick, I'd be in favor of getting an established player at this point. What do you think?
Why do you think the Bears can get Crosby for one first round pick when it took more than that to get Mack?

Personally, I'd trade a first rounder for a significant upgrade on offense. I would trade a second rounder for a good name for the defense.

Consider that Sweat was a second round trade; it is unlikely someone better than him is up for grabs, and I wouldn't bid above that. If there was a LT on the market, I'd leap with a first.

I get your point, but its going to cost a lot more than #10 to get an elite pass rusher.

Why it really makes no sense for this current bears roster. That a move a team like the lions make who have cap space still and are in a win now window
Ohh, I agree with you about more than a 10. I also said this roster isn't built now mode

Personally just hope sweat from the eagles walks in FA - That sweat duo w/ dexter and billings and maybe another DT in the 1st or 2nd would be very good.

Depends on the pass rusher. I still think Chicago is a year out from the proverbial window so Crosby or Garret no for now

Parsons is a yes, but he would carry a hefty extension along with draft capital.

Flip side, no one knows if any pass rusher in the draft will turn out good. Stop with the "not in this draft" take.
lol it’s not that anyone knows if they will be good or not, GM’s will look at the landscape and see what’s available in the draft and FA. It’s called supply & demand and it literally drives the market every year. This isn’t hard.

No, it has nothing to do with supply and demand. It has to do with the GM, in this case Poles, who is judging the supply and demand. He sucks at everything from drafting to judging the market.

You're looking at it from an NFL standpoint. I'm looking at it from the Bears standpoint.

So you have no rebuttal since I'm right and made you see the light.

Thank you
I just don’t care about your opinion on it. End discussion.

It absolutely has to do with supply and demand.

The lions, chargers and commanders also have a ton of cap room, why is a top FA picking us over them?

Its why poles traded for Sweat, because it was very unlikely he would have come here in FA

Crosby or Parsons...in a heartbeat, but will never happen
If it was a top 5 pick no, but at 10 to get a proven guy who creates that amount of havoc I would of course do it. What is the likelihood of getting a player the level of Crosby or Parsons with who we draft? Almost nil, and I don’t care if they are 5 years younger.

Those 2 would change the identity of the Bears defense, but like you said it will never happen.

If we want a quicker turnaround, we need OL more than an edge right now and Crosby would like cost 2 #1s, maybe less since we have #10 this year but it's a high price for a team that currently has all 3 inside OL positions in flux. It's the sort of trade you make when you think you're 1 player away from contending for a title.

I think they have to sign Chase & Higgins though and deal with the inevitable Hendrickson hold out. Remarkably, they have a crazy low dead cap hit too.
Chase is signed or at least his cap hit is $20m+ for next year.

They will probably try to re-sign Geseki, BJ Hill and Hilton as well, which will cost but not that much. They also have several contracts to play with if they want.

They have always been run extremely conservatively, and are ussully really good with the cap. They almost never spend big in free agency.

Right now, he’s on the 5th year option the team exercised last off-season. They’ll 100 percent need to get an extension done with him to get him on the field in ‘25 and it should drop his cap hit in ‘25.

Not from the 2025 draft picks. However I have wondered about a scenario along these lines

2025 Draft:

1) LT
2) 3TECH
2) HB
3)CENTER

FA: Sign Trey Smith if he hits the open market and franchise Tevin Jenkins

Then after all is said and done heading into the season consider trading 2026 draft capital for a DE.

Again, you bring up other teams and using "very unlikely" as your validation for it. That's hypothetical.

What happens to people who continue to misjudge the supply and demand of the market? They lose their jobs.

Poles decisions on player personal up to this point have bring wrong. Hence why he hasn't gotten an extension.

God bless you on this beautiful Sunday.

Jenkins was meh this season, overweight, and left like 6 games with injuries. They aren't paying him $20m for one season.

He was definitely overweight and not nearly as effective when he played. When you have a bad back, adding weight isn’t going to help your longevity or productivity.
