For a poster who has taken more shots than Peter Weller in RoboCop, its hard to imagine that remydat could continue to be wrong about the 2025 coaching carousel. But the man whom remydat trumpeted as the next Bears HC (with Thomas Brown as his OC) has decided to 'sit out' the 2025 season....yes, Mike McCarthy has once again not landed a HC job!

Probably a smart move. The only job opening left is New Orleans, not exactly a great job. He can sit out this year and then become one of the most sought after candidates for the 2026 cycle.

It occurs to me that the New Orleans Saints still do not have a coach.

Vrabel to the Patriots aside, it's nice to be a fan of the team that's on the inside looking out rather than the typical outside looking in.

Kingsbury is also sitting it out, apparently. So is Joe Brady.

I'm guessing either Matt Nagy or Kellen Moore is going to New Orleans.

I'm sure once Pats, Bears, and Jags found their coaches there's nothing left with decent QB options that McCarthy felt was viable.

McCarthy really doesn't have a choice if New Orleans would pass on him.

Joe Brady should be a good choice for NO. He was OC at LSU.

Like he was in 2025?
McCarthy got a late jump on 2025's interview circuit because he and Dallas parted ways well into the process. I'm sure a lot of teams didn't think he'd be available. The Cowboys HC position was the last one this cycle to become open. He took a year off between Green Bay and Dallas and that worked out for him.

I'm glad the Bears didn't hire McCarthy as I wanted Ben Johnson. I like McCarthy as a coach, I don't love him. I only mean to say that he is better off not taking the Saints gig and waiting a year where he's likely to have better options. He's a proven HC who has a good mind for the offensive side of the ball and won a Super Bowl. If Pete Carroll is getting another shot I image McCarthy will get one more as well.

How do you think Mike McCarthy and Bill Belichick feel that this guy got an NFL opening and they didn't?

I was hoping he might consult as Ben Johnson's deepdish coordinator.
