Congrats to Toews, Kane and big Hoss.

Toews, Hossa, Kane named NHL All-Stars

The Chicago Blackhawks landed three players on the roster for the 2012 NHL All-Star Game as Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane were selected to play in the game Jan. 29 in Ottawa.

It will be the third NHL All-Star Game for both Kane and Toews and the fifth for Hossa.

"It's a fun event," said Kane, who has 10 goals and 28 assists this season "It's always good to be named with some players that are some of the top in the league so I'm looking forward to it."

Added Toews: "Every year that you get to be a part of that select group across the league it's a huge honor. (Patrick) Sharp was the MVP last year so hopefully someone can step up and represnt the Hawks the right way."

Said Hossa, who turned 33 on Thursday: "When things are going the right way and the team is winning you're helping the team, the points are coming and you're staying healthy, you have a good shot to make it. I'm really happy about it."

Not selected was Sharp, who was left off the ballot last season but was named by the NHL to the squad and finished as the 2011 game's MVP. The veteran winger is on the injured list with a left wrist injury and that could have figured into the decision to leave Sharp off despite his 20 goals and 20 assists this season.

"If anyone deserves it, it's probably Sharp," Kane said. "He's had a big season. I know he's hurt right now so maybe that had some affect to it. Duncan (Keith) is having a great season too. You can go up and down and name some different players."

Toews said Sharp, who is expected to miss three to four weeks with the injury suffered Sunday night during a game with the Detroit Red Wings, definitely should have been named by the NHL selection committee.

"(It's) 100 percent in my mind because they're not sure if (Sharp) will be back in time yet," Toews said. "Who knows, there might be someone else that drops out and if (Sharp) gets healthy in time there's not doubt he should be there."

There used to be a day when we were uncompetitive as a team that seeing a player as an All Star provided a glimmer of hope.

Now that we are a team that has been proving themselves for the last three seasons as being a force to be reckoned with, I find the announcements unfufilling and even worrisome that one of our key players will get injured.

Anyone else feel that way?

Nope. The allstar game is more or less rat hockey.

Sucks that we have no all-star defensemen.

The Blackhawks have all star caliber defensemen-- the fans didn't vote them in.

Whoopie poo-- they didn't win the popularity contest. I don't put any stock in the game or most of the people that vote the players in.

As far as injuries are concerned, I would be more concerned over the olympic years since that is played at a level equal to playoff hockey. Like Trevor stated, it's more or less practice for these guys.

Plus, everyone from the Hawks already is used to playing on a line with strangers.

I know we've had this conversation before, but I'm so tired of fan voting for anything.

I love Patrick Kanes game... but I don't see what he's done this season to warrant an ASG selection over Sharpie.

I find the All-star game to be the most boring hockey on the planet, rather watch the Jersey trap.

The skills competition is much more fun to watch. I'd rather watch that over the actual game itself. Hell, when the ASG was at LA back in 2002, I went to the All-Star Convention during the actual game. It was cause I worked the graveyard shift during that time and it wasn't as crowded...

Even when the ECHL brought their ASG to my old hometown 2 yrs ago, I just went to the Skills Competition, LOL...
