I love your originality with this post.

I would add maybe Jim Edmonds as great before he got to Chicago in CF perhaps?

As for Josh Hamilton, the Cubs really never had him. Wasn't he specifically drafted in Rule V for trade purposes? I think he was on the team for all of five minutes.

If you count him, wouldn't you count Tin Lincecum since the Cubs actually drafted him for the purposes of keeping him?

Regardless, I still love the spin you took.

I realize that Josh Hamilton was a bit of cheating since while he was techinically Cubs property for a few minutes (or less). The Cubs were never going to keep him, and no team without the support system the Reds had was likely to have the same success with Hamilton. However, Hamilton is different than guys the Cubs drafted but failed to sign like Tim Lincecum because he for ever how brief it may have been he was property of the Cubs for a period of time. Technicality sure, but it makes the list more fun because look at that OF.

Jim Edmonds, Fred McGriff and a number of others were well past their prime when they got here. However, they actually put up decent numbers while they were here. Jim Edmonds was a big part of the team in 08 and was actually pretty good in a platoon with Reed Johnson. McGriff wasn't nearly as good, but he did put up some decent numbers. So I left them off the list because they didn't do virtually nothing for the Cubs like the other guys on the list.

Awesome avatar too dyb

Thanks. By the way, I've updated my two teams to be more complete and a little better. Middle infield on the great after team still sucks, but I am pretty happy with the rosters otherwise.

Gaetti was great before he was a Cub, but for the pennant drive he was incredible. I don't know if he should be on this underachiever list. Steve Buechele might be a better choice. He was supposed to solve the Cubs 3B problems.

If you need another reliever, I remember the Cubs paying big bucks for Astros closer Dave Smith, who lasted a few innings for the Cubs.

If I was actually writing this up I would have explained the Gaetti pick. His 1998 was incredible for the Cubs, but unforunately Ed Lynch didn't understand what it was and brought him back. His 1999 was terrible to say the least. I could see Buechele as a better choice, but I liked Gaetti better due to being better prior to getting here.

Thanks for the suggestion of Dave Smith. I didn't remember him, but looking at his stats he looks to fit the mold perfectly.

Gaetti was much better than Buechele, who was average at best. I think Ed Lynch was the only one who had longer expectations for Gaetti, but I think a lot of people thought Buechele was the long term answer at 3B.

BTW, you stole my "most overrated poster" title. I worked hard to achieve that distinction.

You don't have the hardware that I do to back up that title :troll:

Can't believe I forgot about Fergie Jenkins. Definitely put him in the rotation, take Prior out, put him in the pen, and take out Dempster.

Seriously though, what's wrong with Marms?
