GUESS I HAD THE SCRIPT RIGHT THIS TIMEOzzy Trapilo from Poles very own Boston College becomes a Bear.
Cause Poles just can't help himself.
Where is here? Is the draft happening? Did you see those aliens?!I predict pissy CCS members.
This draft sucks
I find safety to be really really hard to evaluate cause defenses can use them in a lot of ways and their responsibilities are tough to diagnose. The raw stats can sometimes just be hard to fairly assess, so I try to watch them and see what I think.Appreciate the response as always, I like to know the thought process of certain individual takes which allows me to always be open minded. When I look at prospects I like to first get a feel for how they performed based on their stats. Things like Tackles for loss, solo tackles, passes defended etcetera because I think its a big part of the evaluation, especially if the guy has done it in more than one season.
For a strong safety I value run defense so I take a look at tackles per game, if a safety is getting over 5 tackles a game I think that is pretty good. So for example Malaki Starks put up 5.5 tackles per game in 2024, which was a nice jump from getting 3.71 per game in 2023. I look at Nick Emmanwori and he got 6.77 in 2024 and 6.45 in 2023. I think that is very good production almost at a linebacker level and that's what I want to help in run support for the Bears.
Another important stat is pass deflections and interceptions for safeties, a guy with decent hands can usually get 3+ INTS in at least one of his seasons, ideally they will get interceptions and a good amount of deflections in multiple years. Emmanwori got 4 INTs but only 2 PD's in 2024, but he also got 2 INTs and 8 PD's in 2023. I look at that as evidence that he does have the ability and awareness to break up passes and good enough hands to hold on to a couple INTs along the way.
After looking at the stats, I then look at the athleticism as evidence of how he was able to win in his matchups and then I also look at what the pro's think in their evaluations... Either way, I think he could be a monster that can match up and potentially shut down TE's as well as be like that extra LB that cleans up the mess if a runner breaks into the secondary. As you say, no need to fight about any of it, just opinions and it will all play out in the years to come.

Day 2 predictions - only disappointment. Poles consistently delivers there. I hope to be wrong but have zero faith.
