It's getting warmer.

Post some pics of your current rides, past rides, or something you plan on getting in the future.

Post your lemons, cool rides, and pieces of shit-- and foreign cars so Tbird can point his finger and laugh at you.

Time for something a bit more relaxed.

Don't have a car so I'll show the planes I fly.

Piper Warrior III with Avidyne Glass Cockpit - Great airplane, it's a shame we don't fly them up here anymore.

Cessna 172 with Garmin G1000 Glass Cockpit - Nice cockpit, terrible plane.

Why no more Warrior? I thought the North Dakota legislature made it ok for the UND campus to have those?

See what I did there? I made a joke.

Seriously though, why no more Warriors? And how can you talk smack about the 172? It is the quintessential GA aircraft out there, Cessna wise. If it isn't a 172 folks learn on its a 152. Which I swear I couldn't fit in there alone, never mind an instructor. If it's not a Cessna 152 or 172, it is a Piper Cherokee or Arrow.

Does the 172 feel different to you?

OMG I have one of those, but it is a convertible and smaller. I got it for Christmas when I was in the hospital with pneumonia when I was like 5 or 6. The first of several crappy Christmases to come. But, I loved that car and letting my Barbies ride around in it. I still have it.

They got rid of the Warriors because Piper outsourced all their maintenance and getting parts from them was getting to be too much of a pain in the ass, Air China then stepped in and said if you train our pilots we'll buy you a fleet of C172's.

As for why I dislike the Cessna, it just doesn't feel like an airplane to me. With the Warrior you never feel like your flying a small plane because it's very sturdy. The Cessna controls are very finicky and I hate how tail heavy the plane feels and you need to use way too much rudder to keep the plane coordinated. Overall I just loved the way the Warriors flew, not to mention that the Cessna's are absolute maintenance hogs.

I swear Air China will be supplying all the pilots soon. When I was working at the prop shop, the owners went to China and met with a bunch Chinese big wigs. Soon after that we were getting pallets of fixed pitch props from McCauley and Sensenich. New ones, mind you, but for some reason were were double checking everything.

Could the difference between Cessna and Piper be the high wing vs. low wing? I imagine the difference is a lot greater then most realize. And maybe it's just me, but it seems the 172 is longer then the Warrior, or and Piper for that matter. Am I wrong? If not, maybe that accounts for the tail heaviness. I assume all plans need a shit ton of maintenance. I was all about the propellers though, so i can't really say one way or the other about the aircraft itself.

The wing position isn't that big of a deal, the Cessna tends to shake a lot on windy days when your on the ground because of the wind getting under there. The 172 is definitely longer which is why it feels so tail heavy. The maintenance on these things is a bit worse than the rest of the planes we have, although that's likely because of the weather taking a toll. It's not uncommon for some of the Cessna's to be in maintenance 2 or 3 times a week during the winter because of cracks in the wingtips which the geniuses at Cessna decided to make plastic, but also keep in mind that on a day where the weather is good UND students will fly about 130 hours total in one day so the planes see a lot of work and UND has much higher maintenance standards than most others.
