This is way tricky than in year's pass, but will be interesting on to what you guys think. So ... what lineup do you see and the starting rotation. Here's mine:
1) RF Davis DeJesus: I think Sveum already hinted that DeJesus will be leading off, so I see him taking the first at-bat of the game.
2) 2B Darwin Barney: I know he's not your typical 2 hitter, but he can get bunts down. The Cubs are gunna have to play small ball this year with no power in the line-up. Barney was good batting 2 in the beginning of last year, until he went downhill. The bunt will come in handy is there's a guy on 2nd or 3rd with Castro coming up.
3) SS Starlin Castro: I would rather have him 2nd as he struggled batting third in '11, but he's the Cubs best hitter and batting third is where he should hit.
4) Brian LaHair: He has the most power and batting cleaup is where hen should hit to start off, but if he struggles, then move him. Right now, he's the 4 hitter.
5) LF Alfonso Soriano: I lke him hitting 5, I just wish his K's will be way less. He does still have power and rbi potential. Batting in the middle of the order is still deserved.
6) CF Marlon Byrd: I like Byrd and he's not a very bad hitter, but he needs to stop swinging at the 1st pitche when there are runners in scoring positions. That's why he should bat more at the bottom of the order.
7) 3B Ian Stewart: I think Stewart will surprise us by hitting better that we would think; however, until he proves he does, batting at the bottom of the order seems right.
8) C Geoavany Soto: He probably should be higher, but until he hits like his rookie year and his 3rd year, 8n for him is good. Especially if his eye is still good like it as because pitchers will likely pitch around him and getting the pitcher to the plate is hugh ... def compare them to leading off an inning.
Starting rotation:
1) Matt Garza: Too easy ... he's by far the Cubs pitcher and deserves getting the ball on opening day.
2) Ryan Dempster: He had a down year in '11, but I expect him to be an abover average pitche rin 2012. With no competition really, he'll be the Cubs #2 starter.
3) Paul Maholm: I love the Maholm signing and will be huge at the end ... he's not a bad pitcher and I expect a huge season from Maholm.
4) Travis Wood: Wood had a down year in '11, but has put up nice stats in the minors and 1st year of the majors. More pressure will be off of him as he does not have as much to prove. That Sean marshall trade will come up as a big with for the Cubs.
5) Chris Volstad: The last spot was down to Wells and Volstatd, but I gotta give it to Volstad. He hasn't been a very bad pitcher and I expect him to prove Cub fans and Marlin fans that he's just getting stated. This move pushes Wells to the 'pen or [traded] and Samardizia stays in the bullpen.
The lineup can change with Fonzie/Byrd being trade or Jackosn/Rizzo making team/getting called-up.
So ... what's your? I know mine will be different, but everybody has a different view.
