This is way tricky than in year's pass, but will be interesting on to what you guys think. So ... what lineup do you see and the starting rotation. Here's mine:

1) RF Davis DeJesus: I think Sveum already hinted that DeJesus will be leading off, so I see him taking the first at-bat of the game.

2) 2B Darwin Barney: I know he's not your typical 2 hitter, but he can get bunts down. The Cubs are gunna have to play small ball this year with no power in the line-up. Barney was good batting 2 in the beginning of last year, until he went downhill. The bunt will come in handy is there's a guy on 2nd or 3rd with Castro coming up.

3) SS Starlin Castro: I would rather have him 2nd as he struggled batting third in '11, but he's the Cubs best hitter and batting third is where he should hit.

4) Brian LaHair: He has the most power and batting cleaup is where hen should hit to start off, but if he struggles, then move him. Right now, he's the 4 hitter.

5) LF Alfonso Soriano: I lke him hitting 5, I just wish his K's will be way less. He does still have power and rbi potential. Batting in the middle of the order is still deserved.

6) CF Marlon Byrd: I like Byrd and he's not a very bad hitter, but he needs to stop swinging at the 1st pitche when there are runners in scoring positions. That's why he should bat more at the bottom of the order.

7) 3B Ian Stewart: I think Stewart will surprise us by hitting better that we would think; however, until he proves he does, batting at the bottom of the order seems right.

8) C Geoavany Soto: He probably should be higher, but until he hits like his rookie year and his 3rd year, 8n for him is good. Especially if his eye is still good like it as because pitchers will likely pitch around him and getting the pitcher to the plate is hugh ... def compare them to leading off an inning.

Starting rotation:

1) Matt Garza: Too easy ... he's by far the Cubs pitcher and deserves getting the ball on opening day.

2) Ryan Dempster: He had a down year in '11, but I expect him to be an abover average pitche rin 2012. With no competition really, he'll be the Cubs #2 starter.

3) Paul Maholm: I love the Maholm signing and will be huge at the end ... he's not a bad pitcher and I expect a huge season from Maholm.

4) Travis Wood: Wood had a down year in '11, but has put up nice stats in the minors and 1st year of the majors. More pressure will be off of him as he does not have as much to prove. That Sean marshall trade will come up as a big with for the Cubs.

5) Chris Volstad: The last spot was down to Wells and Volstatd, but I gotta give it to Volstad. He hasn't been a very bad pitcher and I expect him to prove Cub fans and Marlin fans that he's just getting stated. This move pushes Wells to the 'pen or [traded] and Samardizia stays in the bullpen.

The lineup can change with Fonzie/Byrd being trade or Jackosn/Rizzo making team/getting called-up.

So ... what's your? I know mine will be different, but everybody has a different view.

2 things i bolded. Stewart cant hit outside of Coors. I posted stats showing so. Maholm is a back end SP. He never had a winning record in MLB. A great season from him would be 12-10. I do like Maholm but to say he going to have great season is just being a young cub fan that has to much hope lol.

As for my order

1: Dejesus
2: Castro
3: Lahair
4: Soriano
5: Byrd
6: Soto
7: Stewart
8: 2B NEEDED!!!! ( Barney should not be starting 2B, no power, OBP sucks, DEF ok)

I know it wont be this way, I do see the way that Waldo posted it. Castro is a perfect 2 hole hitter and i wish they just keep him there. That is honestly the only guy that matters where he bats. Rest of guys wont be around in 2014 when team starts to matter

SP
1: Garza
2: Demp
3: Maholm
4: Volstad
5: Wood

They will put split up the LHP

I think getting voted the best player in the league for a season makes you worthy of the next level. I know he is a late bloomer at 29-30 yrs old but he still BLOOMED. I think before we write the guy off you have to see what he does on the field.

#Cubs Sveum says DeJesus is his likely leadoff hitter and LaHair is the cleanup man. For now.

The other point is that if he is now given a chance and shows he's the real deal, that's another couple of years of league minimum plus three years of cost control through arbitration during what should be his prime, instead of having to pay a free agent much more to produce at the same level. Big if, but he's cheap so I'm not complaining.

Exactly my thoughts. He is cheap and if he does rake we wont have to pay him a ton to do it. If he sucks you send him back to DM and give Rizzo his shot. If he rakes, and Rizzo is killing it and is ready to come to the pros, you think Rizzo is the future then he becomes excellent trade bait. Cause a guy who can mash, at the trade deadline becomes a very enticing piece. Who knows if that route is taken he may get you a top prospect arm or two from a one piece away contender.

I don't know how valuable of a trade bait he'll be, but depending on how you feel you might as well put LaHair in LF to platoon with Soriano at that point whenever Rizzo comes up.

Not fan of Byrd in 2 hole. I still wish Castro stay in 2 hole. To me he perfect 2 hole hitter. Of all these guys in the lineup Castro only main stay

Sveum sez DeJesus will lead off this year and Sori will bat 4th or 5th.

What we all thought would happen.

Talked to a pro scout today who said he thinks Junior Lake could play gold glove defense in the major leagues right now
