Hope this lead holds up. Nice to see Chicago play like they can after keeping things close for so long...despite the usual own-zone follies.
DeBrincat could still notch 20 goals which is a more in-line number for someone who had 15% and 18% shooting stats the last two years.
I don’t see him as a pan-flash; just someone who had an incredible year a-la Karlsson in Vegas who shouldn’t be expected to repeat that crazy success every year afterward.
Thing with Cat is he is a one trick pony. He's not good defensively. Not gonna win any board battles with his size and goalies will easily look over him if he tries to screen in front of the net.
Think of it this way. He put up 41 goals last season in a contract year and ended up a PLUS/MINUS ZERO, lol.
You put up that many goals you should be in the PLUS double digit column easy. Just goes to show how much of a liability he is defensively when he's on the ice.
if this team can find a way to start playing when the game starts they could actually have a shot at winning every game.
First time since 2009 the hawks won in Tampa. First time in a long time the lightning lost after winning going into the third.
Another sensational find by the scouts in europe which should be a great feather in the cap of this organization, guessing Kubalik goes the way of the last few european finds like Panarin and is deemed unaffordable.
Some perspective: it's one win, against a cold team (TB lost 3 in a row heading in), with many of their starting players out, including their best player in Steve Stamkos.
Kubalik won't be lost, if he's not asking for the moon or if the Hawks genuinely want to retain him. All he would have to do essentially is trade Saad this off-season, which shouldn't be all that hard -- he doesn't have a NMC and only has one year left on his contract. Not necessarily advocating that, but just saying: Bowman has options, it's not like his hands are tied with re-signing Kubalik.

To be fair to Debrincat, his +/- is a combo of line/players iced with him stat in terms of variance from line mates. And Kane/Strome were merely a +2. With Kane putting up 3 more goals and over 20 more points, what's that say about Kane?Thing with Cat is he is a one trick pony. He's not good defensively. He's not good defensively, but really, no one has been on the 'hawks since 2015. They've had to rely on goaltending to save them. When they don't have it things go to shit fast.
Well, remember when it was time to sign Panarin? They traded Saad to be able to afford him, got Panarin to sign a 2 year 6 million per year dollar deal, and still moved him figuring they could not afford to keep him after that deal or some other made up reason in that head of his. Panarin did not really cost that much more at 6 million since he hit almost all of his performance bonus dollars. The knock was he did not show up in the second year he was in the playoffs with chicago. First year, 7 playoff games 7 points, second year 4 games 1 point -4 rating and he was gone.
Yeah, that was the point, even when we resigned him for an affordable dollar, he still dealt him, so what would stop him from doing the same stupid mistake with Kubalik?Panarin was already re-signed by the Hawks when Bowman traded him for Saad. Bowman traded him because he's an idiot, it had nothing to do with cap.
Also, the knock on Panarin was that he wasn't a two-way player (whereas Saad was) and couldn't play without Kane on his line. In other words, he was inflexible in the lineup, and Bowman wanted someone who could jump-start Toews in Saad.
