There's a difference between being "un-affordable," and being affordable (i.e. re-signed) only to be moved. But anyways...

You might as well ask, what's stopping Bowman from being an idiot. The only answer to that, is him being fired by the organization.
It was 2 years of Panarin at 6 million and no more bonus dollars for 3 years of Saad for 18.

Would not put it past Bowman to want to deal Cat since his 6 mil is gonna kick in, but who is gonna take him now?

The bottom line Bowman fucked this entire team when he gave yes gave away Panarin, in the case of Dcat, he just had a bad season, he will rebound.

Plus Minus is goal differential. Look at all bad NHL teams and look at their differentials...all in the negative column, lol So looks there is a link to that overrated stat in relation to team success.
https://www.espn.com/nhl/standings

Cat is so overrated.
The only metric you need on Debrincat is his goal total and point total. disliking him for +/- is like disliking any 'hawk netminder since 2016 for GAA. There are plenty more players bringing that number down. Debrincat is not the only defensive liability on the team.

Glad to see the win over FLA - in the news.

Was stuck watching Hallmark on Leap Day evening at relatives; would sooner watch Chicago lose 20-0 to Boston after paying $1000 for a nosebleed seat ?

Bobrovsky hasn’t been the Panthers answer most of this year; I’m betting Coach Q is livid about that, having to play him because of his giant deal and no especially good 2nd option. Have they scouted their Zamboni squad?

"A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic. "

"Goal difference (or points difference) is calculated as the number of goals (or points) scored in all league matches minus the number of goals or points conceded."

Two different things......learn the game or quit pretending that you do.

Exactly.

And just to add to this: plus-minus is a very unreliable stat to focus on. A player can simply be making a line-change and not at all involved in the play, but he gets a plus-minus, for example. Basically and many times, plus-minus either punishes or rewards every single player on the team, even if the sin/reward should be attributed to only one or two players.

Another thing: plus-minus doesn't take into account situation, ice-time, and/or opposition-line strength. So of course, a guy who is in the top-six -- facing opposing teams' top-sixes -- will obviously be on the ice for more goals than a 4th liner who gets 10 minutes a game against the opposing teams' shit players. Also, a PK'er will also be on the ice for more goals than a player who doesn't kill penalties, etc. This is obvious when you look at defensemen. Olli Maatta and Slater Koekkoek lead the team in plus-minus, whereas guys who are regularly in the top-4 like Keith, Boqvist, Murphy, Guss are all at the bottom.

I'm not speaking on a particular player here; I'm just saying, plus-minus is by far the worst stat to ever formulate an opinion either way. This isn't just my opinion, it's pretty much Hockey 101.

Florida got embarassed again yesterday, skated slow and methodical their third period again last night. maybe Q has lost it.

And yeah, plus minus blows. Look at Gilbert, playing at -10 over first 14 games, last 6 games a +2 and he is replaced by Seeler.

Now KuKoo is getting first pair shifts with Dunc.

That whole thing was directed to some kid who posts like he's an authority on things when the only thing he does is Google for facts and info that most of us here know. I will say that he was right about one thing though.....if Kubalik hits 35 goals, it's gonna dip hard into an already tight Cap. I read today where John Dietz openly reccommended signing him to an extension in early January....of course, our ace GM paid zero mind to that idea. Now's he's fucked.....can't let Kubby turn into Breadman Part2, so he's gonna have to pony up.

Sound familar? I mean I like Dale Tallon as much as anybody but his achilles heel has always been goaltenders.

?

Yeah, I agree about Kubalik, but I do wonder if Bowman will have second thoughts on re-signing a player early in his tenure after doing so with Delia and Debrincat recently.

That's the deal in pro sports....you never know. Don't the Hawks wish they would have extended him a few months ago? You can try and be proactive and get burned and if you don't, you can get burned that way as well. Say the Hawks sign him to big numbers and he scores 10 goals next year or maybe they trade him and he pounds home 30+ for some other team.

Successful scout and talent evaluators have to worth their weight in gold.
