In the past few weeks the various media 2010-2011 standings and/or preview predictions have slowly been coming out as per ususal. Didn't see a thread here devoted to discussing the HawKs place in all the prognosticating and seeing as news of the Hawks imminent demise has been grealty beaten with a club into an unrecognizable bloody pulp because of their "LOSS OF DEPTH!!!!" has preceded itself and run rampant online like a brushfire I thought better late than never. If you run across a new one, please post a link!

Chicago Blackhawks
Why: The team with the most summer turnover, Chicago GM Stan Bowman did well in trading, given the position he was in. Dustin Byfuglien, Kris Versteeg, John Madden, Brent Sopel, Andrew Ladd and Adam Burish were among the players moved out, but none are recognized as integral for regular season success. With the core collection of skill still in the lineup, the Blackhawks filled in the holes with Fernando Pisani and Viktor Stalberg and have room to promote prospects such as Jack Skille. Chicago’s defense far and away allowed the fewest shots on goal per game and with the blueline looking much the same it should help Marty Turco adjust to his new team. The loss of Antti Niemi isn’t a good thing, but Turco, though he has struggled the past couple of seasons, is a veteran capable of doing the job. And just in case he isn’t, Corey Crawford is itching and ready for his opportunity.

Last Week: 6
Chicago Blackhawks (52-22-8)
Tough not to rank the defending Cup champs at No. 1 until you consider that just 11 members of last season's squad will be on hand for the banner-raising ceremony. GM Stan Bowman saved the ship, but threw everything that wasn't nailed down overboard, including starting goalie Antti Niemi. To his credit, Bowman kept the defense intact, and that should make life easier for new stopper Marty Turco. But with so many forwards wearing Hello, My Name Is tags, it could take time for the offense to gel.
