I'm hoping for Mark McNeill or Zach Phillips, both centers, as our first picks. I wouldn't mind seeing Tyler Biggs being taken in the 2nd round (LW, USA) as from what I've read he's a solid two way player with some offensive flair and solid physical play.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I agree. This team has lacked depth at Center for quite some time. It just cost us in the playoffs starting the series with the Canucks with basically a #1 and #4 Center and nothing in between. That said the best way to get what we need at Center is through UFA/RFA signing. Because it's a 2nd line Center they'll need experiece IMO. I'd still draft a Center in my top 1-2 but if there is a gritty winger there I might go #1 still.

They'll also need some goalie depth. Not sure whats out there as I haven't followed the prospects in the draft much, but Toivenenn and Richards are not quite the "depth" we need.

Knowing they just signed two Centers for Rockford is a good thing.

And now with my .02 cents and your .02 cents, we have .04 Cents.

From what I've seen of them, Carruth is ahead of Simpson, and Carruth has some potential given how he did with the Winterhawks push in the postseason this year. Simpson I'm not quite sold on. Carruth is still a ways away, though. Of all of the WHL goalies I've seen, though, I really wish we could have drafted Calvin Pickard out of Seattle, though; he's way ahead of both and if he doesn't crack the NHL next year, he will the year after.

I agree on getting the center NOW, but even looking a few years own the road, it couldn't hurt to stock up. I think right now the 'hawks in the draft should focus more on restocking the pipeline rather than someone who, like Toews and Kane, needs to step up NOW. You're right: the UFA/RFA/Trade circuit should plug any leaks we have assuming we get the right talent and the CEO with all of the hockey credentials of Elenor Roosevent stays the smeg out of things.

I think I'd like to see them move up into the top ten and get a better prospect via trade. Mika Zibanejad entrigues me, doubt he stays on the board past 10 though.

Posted in the transactions thread, but speculation of Soupy to Columbus. No word on for who/what yet, but CBJ traded the 8th pick yesterday.

McNeill. Good pick. Looks like a well built kid. And he is a center.

Hawks Take Mark McNeill C, 6-2, 201.

Favorite team is the 'Hawks!

NHL Central Scouting’s Blair MacDonald

“One thing I like about him is that he's a right-handed center, which is good to have. He's really composed and has a real pro-style game. He has a nice touch, can dish, and has nice, soft passes. His on-ice awareness is very good and he's paid attention to detail at both ends of the rink. He has good defensive-zone coverage as well as being offensive at the other end. All around I think he's got a real solid game I think his offensive game will improve the older he gets and the more confident he gets. I think he'll be a better offensive player than he's showing right now. He's good at both ends of the rink. He comes down low and helps out defensively.”

Port McNeil GM Bruno Campese

“He's one of those kids that has the ability to do so many different things, he's got so much upside to him. ... He's a powerful skater and has great hockey sense. He's got very good basic skills and he's got the ability to be a real tough person to play against. He's got the mental capabilities to understand the game as well . . . I really believe he has all the attributes. He's got certain gifts that other players just don't have. That really bodes well for playing in the NHL.”

I love the pick. This kid is NHL ready and could be on the starting roster when the season begins. I emphasize "could". Big, strong, skilled, level headed and has great work ethic. Great pick I am thrilled even though i am still upset about Troy.
