sure, spend the money on other has been players. sounds like a plan.

he only sported a .917 save % in the playoffs this year.

You always talk about sample size and then you bring up the playoffs. Crawford had a .917 over a year and a .927 in a playoff series, just 1 (or 2 however you look at it) season ago.

Marty has the name and the experience...but his past two regular seasons haven't been anything to really boast about. His numbers have been down in just about every major category...games played and save percentage especially. Brodeur didn't even put up a much better save percentage than Crawford last year.

For me, just could be money better spent unless it is a super cheap contract which I'm not expecting because it seems something couldn't be reached with the Devils for a reason.

It's not 9-10 million per year... it's all together. So, 4.5 or 5 million per year.

I looked him up. A no scoring 31 year old old bruiser type who only weighs 200 pounds. Hmmmm... Maybe we got him for 14 bucks a game.

Except it isn't that easy unless there is a Crawford trade or something, and even then it isn't as straight up as one or the other.

Brodeur is going to cost more money and definitely isn't a long term solution. Brodeur has been on the decline over the last couple of years and minus a nice year in the playoffs this year, hasn't shown much.

Adding a Brodeur, at the possible reported price, just doesn't make that much sense because of the cost and the actual amount of upgrade that he is at this point.

A depth signing...nothing more, nothing less. Don't think a big deal needs to be made of it one way or another. Not like the Blackhawks can sign Suter as their #6 dman.

On twitter they said he is the 5-6 guy. He's a big body who hits and blocks shots. Should help the PK. Also said his brother talked him into signing with the organization

Old goaltender with maybe one year left in him that won't come very cheap? I'd rather not. Sure, he might be a good mentor for Crawford, but it's not worth the money. Get a young goalie like Bernier or spend the money on D-man and some forwards.

The perfect reason to not hire the guy as a player ... ChicagoFan outlined Brodeur's resume for a position as goalie coach.

I think you'd maybe end up with a Marty Turco situation (only much more money committed) if you went this direction. Plus I think the Hawks are a terrible fit for Brodeur -he needs a team that is defensive oriented and that limits scoring opportunities -the past couple of seasons show a team that doesn't do that -- not in Chicago at least...

Sounds like they finally found that elusive replacement for Brent Sopel more than anything else...

Not terribly exciting really.
