Let's just hope that he's better than the depth defensemen that were signed last year.

Isnt he by default better than SOD?

Well by staying stagnant we fell further behind Detroit, but Nashville has taken a step back. Did St. Louis do anything?

Oh and isn't there that other team in our division that is as bad as the Cubs? Do they have a shot this year? :troll: :cubstroll: :troll:

Sounds like they finally found that elusive replacement for Brent Sopel more than anything else...

Not terribly exciting really.

That is ok, though (in theory). Lepisto, OD, the kid, etc. were not filling that role well at all....that is, if he is used as such. To me, that's the bigger question.

More fluff...nothing new with the clown in way over his head.

Give this a touch of thought - with this FA class, maybe it was best to go big or go home. Are the Hawks a finalist in the Sutor sweepstakes? I've been away and don't know.

Ultimately, time will tell.

I would love to be wrong, but I dont think that was the mindset coming into the offseason of "go big or go home" a lot of teams put themselves out there as being in on certain guys to 1) drive prices up to inevitable competition. 2) keep the fans thinking they are trying 100% on the product.

its great business, just not fun for fans. I believe that they are just going to try to stay young as **** and develop around some of the core. problem is Hossa and toews are more susceptible to concussions now, sharp could start to regress and past workloads on the D core.

the hawks have their hands full.

Prices are ridiculous up on players - for a lot of meh. Is it worth pumping out multi-year deals that may hinder an up-and-comer or a far better free agent in the future? I'm just posing the question.

As for your second point, with whatever crazy season ticket holder numbers that were retained, you know better than I do how the right amount of rhetoric or bullshit from marketing can persuade the stupid that they are trying 100% on the product without a fart in the breeze's attempt to *actually* make the roster stronger. There is certainly not enough financial pressure to make those improvements. That's the Bears and Cubs redux.

...or the WWW Hawks. (under the above scenario you could take away 2010 and you got that line from that Who song --- meet the new boss, the same as the old boss.

I doubt we get Parise, and offense hasn't been our primary need lately. It would be cool but I think money could be better spent on defense.

However, it would certainly have an impact.

I would have to think that is a longshot.

There are going to be plenty of teams (also "contenders") that will throw a ridiculous amount of money at Parise to fill a hole.

I don't see it happening but it would be interesting if it did.

You have to look at it as Detroit wants him badly. If they get Suter ad Parise.. We're fcked. Bowman needs to block Detroit from getting at least 1 of them.

I think that would be an ill-advised strategy. Just trying to sign someone to "block" another team could definitely get the Blackhawks in trouble cap wise down the line.

Well also we would be crazy not to think Parise wouldn't help this team.

Rogers said it would be a longshot...

I think the hawks are playing it smart right now...once suter and carle sign, hammer becomes the best defenseman available...maybe we can get a 2nd line center out of someone....Sam Gagner maybe?

Parise would CLEARLY benefit the team, but scoring isn't our main concern. I'd be happy with getting him but I'd be infinitely more happy with signing a decent #2 center as opposed to a superstar, and grabbing some help on the D. I really liked PA Parenteau with his size and production and to think we could have had him for 4 mill and signed a stud defender for 4 and instead spent a million bucks on Brookbank confuses the hell out of me.

Now we STILL have holes to fill and we're down 1.25 million with which to do it.

He would definitely help, but at what cost?

I would have to think that if Parise is signed, the other holes (the ones that are really there such as defense and goalie) won't be addressed.

Building a team isn't always about going out and getting the highest paid and the highest skilled player. There has to be some sort of balance throughout the lineup as Parise won't be on the ice for the whole game, he won't even be out there for 1/3 of the game.
