In all fairness, I don't think it was a hit he was intentionally looking to make. He was making a move to the net to try and tip the puck (well outside the paint), and I don't think he expected Backstrom to be so far out of the net. Corey gets as bad or worse while in the paint pretty often.

The GM listening to the fans? Say it isn't so?

To be honest, I don't think Nolan should have ever left.

For what looked to be a normal move to distract the goalie while it could have also been an accident that it happened? I don't know....

I don't envy Shanaban's job.

Fighting does nothing to swing momentum in hockey...

... even though Giroux himself last night said they've been firing on all cylinders since the incident.

He elbowed the goalie in the head... looked intentional to me.

For every one example you want to attribute whatever change is due to fighting there are countless more where there is the opposite or no difference whatsoever. That's usually called a coincidence everywhere else, but it is the NHL we're talking about.

"To gain a larger scope of the influence of fights on NHL games, the company analyzed 1,563 fights going back to the 09/10 season using their game archives. They have determined that a fight has a positive effect on at least one team's momentum in 76% of fights and increases the momentum for both teams about 1 out of every 4 fights (23%). This research was done using the Momentum Meter, looking specifically at the increase in team momentum in the three minutes following the fight.

“The Momentum Meter tracks how often shots on goal happen to estimate the ups and downs of team momentum in real-time for every NHL game,” says Marc Appleby, President of PowerScout Sports, Inc. “This makes it the first and only way I know of to see and measure the true impact of every NHL fight at-a-glance.”

Only has a hearing for elbow to Backstrom... no hearing for the match penalty he received for hitting Granlund in the head.

And as usual with these idiot faces a team they did something stupid to games with supposed fireworks potential they turn out to be nothing special and just ordinary hockey games.

Welcome to how it really works...

Scott said he wasn't going to do anything unless the Leafs tried something. Obviously the Leafs were too scared to try something so nothing happened.
