This is supposed to be one of the best drafts of the last 30 years. Deng is not good enough to garner that type of attention. You are not going to get a first round pick AND an expiring contract (which holds a lot of value) for Deng. If you get a first round pick, you will get 15mil worth of garbage (think Ben Wallace to Cleveland), and it won't be expiring. But Deng isn't good enough to garner both. Neither is Noah that valuable in my opinion.
I think Cleveland is unique. The reported trade rumors with Waiters have included players like Turner, Deng, etc.... The players that they are targeting have too much talent to allow them to be lottery-bound.

Multiple reports have them angling to bring Lebron back home & pair him with Kyrie. It appears that they are looking to make noise in the playoffs as a way to sell Lebron on the possibilities of a not-so-distant future title run with Kyrie as his sidekick.

If they acquire Luol Deng via trade & allow him to leave via free-agency (along with Bynum's & Waiter's contracts off the books), you're looking at a potential trio of:

PG Kyrie
SF Lebron
PF Bosh

If they acquire Evan Turner via trade & extend him a QO this summer, you're looking at a potential trio of:

PG Kyrie
SG Turner
SF Lebron

With Miami being depleted because of Lebron's departure, the Cavs immediately become the front-runners in the eastern conference with either combination above.

Given current events, the Bulls absolutely must move Deng for a 1st round pick and an expiring contract. They will by default tank the rest of the season, giving them two 1st rounders, plus the Charlotte pick and cap space to sign a free agent next year. The options get even sweeter if they trade Noah for yet another 1st round pick and some expiring contracts, and amnesty Boozer. When the dust settles, the Bulls could be sitting pretty with four 1 round picks and $$Millions off the books to start the 2014 season. With Rose coming back and Mirotic floating out there, this team could get better faster than anyone thought possible. It's time to turn the page...
:bullbang:

thinking too hard. You can't replace Noah outside of the top 10, and even that is a complete crap shoot and not a dice you want to role. Why lose Noah?

And we might already have two firsts without doing anything. Also, Deng for a first is probably a long shot, it will be a late first to a contender at the most with this draft crop, people gonna hold their picks at more value.

Your overthinking, why make your entire team a crap shoot, when we can stand pat with a playoff team, develop Snell, add Mirotic and our first and the Bobcats first looking more and more like a 12th-18th pick overall this year?

We add 3 players plus a free agent if Deng walks or is traded.

What are you talking about? Deng is worth a 10-25 first round pick. Especially for teams who have been drafting a lot of 1st rounders in previous years, and don't want any more project players. These teams don't need any more young players sitting on the bench waiting their turn, they want seasoned vets who can play and provide mentorship in the locker room.

Who are you projecting will still be there and too good to pass up after the first 10 picks? And please think about this before you respond, I'm not interested in getting in another pissing contest with you.

It's hard to take you seriously when you use condescension. Check your own tone before worrying about mines...thanks.

I didn't state that he wasn't worth a 10-25 pick....I said that the picks and expiring contracts hold value. A team might just give you their first round pick, but if its a possible mid rounder in the upcoming draft...they might not give you expiring contracts too. I wouldn't, I would give you 14-15mil in bad contracts back. And that first round pick will be a protected pick...or it won't be a pick for the 2014 draft at all.

LOOKS LIKELY THE STAND PAT RITUAL IS ACTUALLY THE BEST WAY FOR THE MOMENT.....PERHAPS SOME TIME DURING THE SEASON A DECENT TRADE OFFER WILL COME UP UNEXPECTEDLY THAT WILL BE WORTH JUMPING ON, BUT AT THIS POINT, NONE....**** WAITERS ...SOME THING BETTER IS BOUND TO COME UP AROUND THE TRADE DEADLINE..........AND IF NOT..HOPEFULLY PAX AMNOSTY BOOZERS AND DON'T RESIGN DENG AT THE END OF SEASON.....THIS SHOULD LEAVE ENOUGH CAP ROOM TO AT LEAST MAKE A RUN AT 1 OF THE TOP FREE AGENTS..BUT CAN PAX GAR GET IT DONE THIS TIME?.....I STILL HAVE HOPE AT BRINGING LEBRON OR LOVE HERE......ONE THING FOR SURE THOUGH IS THAT OUR TEAM AS IS ISN'T LOTTERY BOUND...

There's always a slight chance that Lord David Stern will show us Bulls fans mercy and just give us the first pick no matter what our record is....After all, he did just hand us Rose even though our franchise didn't deserve it. :troll:

Also in my opinion it´s way too late to get some decent draft picks for the upcoming draft.

Everyone knows how good this draft might be, so everybody wants to hold their picks.

I don´t see the Bulls getting a top 5 pick via trade and everything above the top 5 would be worse than Deng imo.

Honestly I don´t see how we can improve the roster for the next season. This is just a tough situation ....

If hindsight is 20/20 -- we should've pulled that deal last year that was going to send Deng and the Bulls first-rounder to the Kings for Tyreke Evans and the Kings #1 pick that year (which was pick #7).

It's not overthinking, Cleveland has inquired about Deng and several teams have inquired about Noah over the last few years.

Standing pat with this team is a pussy ass move, IMO. They're going to win a championship with Rose's gimpy ass knees, Noah's plantar fasciitus and Deng/Boozer's poor performance in pressure situations. It doesn't make sense to spend over the salary cap for such a mediocre team. The only way to get better is via the draft and creating salary space by moving overpriced veteran players. Getting younger is a crap shoot, but it's the only move for the Bulls. Bringing in more mediocre players is putting a bandaid on infected laceration; the team will continue to fester.

Not sure why you think LeBron wants to come to the Bulls. Wouldn't make much sense, but it's your fantasy not mine, so whatever.

I made a big post about that trade plus a rumored trade where Noah was going to go to Toronto for DeRozan, some filler and a future first rounder. It's kind of interesting to think about what the roster could look like if those trades would've happened.

The Kings had the #5 pick actually.

I don't believe the trade was ever rumored, but merely suggested by an ESPN writer. It was proposed Tyreke and #5 for Noah. The deal would have paired Jo with Cousins while the Bulls could have matched Houston's offer to Asik and drafted Drummond.

I would have done that deal 10 out of 10 times if I were the Bulls then and 100 out of 100 if I were the Bulls now. I don't think either side would have ever done that deal however at the time as I highly doubt it was ever discussed by either party.

Oh the Bulls shopped Deng to Toronto and Golden St hard for the #7 overall straight up from Toronto and then Biedrins and #8 from Golden St.

The Bulls didn't meet with Barnes several times because they didn't think they couldn't draft him. The Bulls wanted Barnes/Waiters bad in that draft...at least that was the buzz, which made sense with how many times they met with both of them.

I love talking scenarios for the Bulls to find a way to move Deng, but they've tried.

The Bulls are stuck with Deng unless they give him away to a contender for an expiring contract and nothing more, which the Bulls won't do.

No one wants Lu. I wish Cleveland would get desperate and deal Waiters to us, but they won't.

I think when we get into the end of January, teams who're hanging on by a thread will offer up something a bit more substantial. Deng's deal is expiring and he would be a difference-maker on a team that's sitting on the doorstep of a playoff berth.
