Fun fact: the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup every year the Winter Olympics have been held since 2010.
Posts like this....

So what are everyone's plans for Olympic hockey watching, considering all the games are early morning faceoffs here in the states?

I'm torn between watching on DVR delay or waking up early and utilizing some afternoon naps.

DVR the game Thurs morning, but Saturday a bunch of my friends and I are going to one of our favorite bars. Our friend who bar tends there, is from Edmonton, got the okay from the boss to open up at 6am. (Couldn't believe he found a group of 7-8 friends who all love hockey in Des Moines.) So he proposed the idea to us, we all jumped on board. Gonna be a good time, but I bet I'll need a nap after the Canada game. Rockford is in town to take on Iowa that evening, so it should be a day of Beer and Hockey. If you can't tell I'm pretty freaking stoked!

NHL will decide on next Olympics within 6 months. We had a quick discussion in another thread about this, but I will be surprised if NHL players are at the next Olympics.

From the things I have seen, doesn't look good for NHL'ers back. Better enjoy this one as much as possible, not likely we will see any of these guys suited up again for their country in the Olympics. I know the owners don't like the condensed schedule, and I understand their concerns with health of the players. My buddy and I were talking about it, with 3 out of the last 4 years they have played a condensed schedule. It's gonna be weird next year when we go back to the Hawks playing once or twice a week. I have almost forgotten what a regular season schedule feels like.

Slovakia got a big time bs offside goal, lucky we answered….Kane was a little selfish on that last play. No doubt that kid wants olympic glory and lots of olympic sex. Also….these colors are terrible, white and blue and blue and white, wtf is this? I'm blind

I'm a big Kesler fan. He has started to cut out that diving shit that plagued him for a couple of years and is getting back to playing hockey the way it should be played.

One of the biggest and best empty net goals I have seen.

and 2 of them assists from Kane so he kept his points up without goals today. When we play sweden and canada its a blackhawk/red wing festival.

I actually think the play I was referring to as Kane being "selfish", he noticed also. It was just a bad moment really where he tried to do too much in a 1-1 game, one of the first times he got the puck in the second and he didn't have support really caught up to him so he just tried to do his solo thing.

It wasn't a big deal, and he came back with the big assist right after, as well as another later. He also looked up at the sky as if to say "wtf am I doing?" after the play….

I am sure Kane wants to match what his teammate Toews did in 2010 but he is going to have to settle for what comes to him and keep setting up others. It all comes back around, and the team looks fired up. They will need a goal from him and for him to be selfish in a good way before this is over. He is such a freak at what he does its expected and ok for him to have an ego. I was just observing and had only one play in the entire game to criticize him for. Overall obviously, a brilliant 2 points.

Just finished the game, managed to make it all day without catching the score. I was pissed at the offsides goal, but obviously that was a short lived feeling. After hearing the roster, I was somewhat skeptical of how good they would actually be. I was pleasantly surprised, all lines looked good. The depth was relentless for Slovakia. It's one game, and I don't like getting too amped too early, but this team has me excited as hell about a chance at a run for gold! We will know a lot more come Saturday, I can't wait to see what the atmosphere will be like in the arena!

The game against Russia this weekend will be a pretty good barometer of how far this team can go. May not be a tougher team to face in this tournament than Russia because of the home-ice advantage. Atmosphere oughta be electric.

I was hoping for the triple-K line: Kessel - Kessler - Kane

Being the first line, followed by the most badass checking line: Brown - Backes - Callahan

Due to kicking ass in game one, keep Oshie - Stastny - Pacioretty

Nothing better than Olympic hockey. Hopefully USA tops Canada this year, so my country and Kane get the gold while a lot of my favorite Hawks get silver.

Exciting first period. Some nice pace and even some nastiness after the whistle. These early morning games aren't too bad...usually don't get to wake up and watch some great hockey. Not a bad way to start the day.

Joe should be happy.

And the most immature name on the Russian team takes a bonehead hit to get USA a PP goal.
