Marlon Byrd popped for PEDS again. 162 game suspension. I would guess his career is over.

Neil Ramirez was picked up by the Brewers

I just hated the fact that he got DFA'd while a stiff like Richard stays....what? You say he's a lefty out of the pen. Yeah, a lefty that lefthanded hitters are hitting .435 against. He might as well be throwing with his dick.

They are presently devastated by injury and that in the OF. I wonder if there isn't a trade to be made there. And by that I don't mean for an MLB ready pitcher. But for example, could the cubs deal McKinney for say Justus Sheffield? The cubs lack LHP. Of their top 30 prospects, only Hudson, Steele and Sands are lefties and all 3 are aways off. McKinney is still only in AA but he's carried a .350ish OBP for roughly 500 PAs. I'd suggest he's probably AAA ready and honestly wouldn't surprise me if he could start for some teams such as Cleveland today. Sheffeld is rated lower on mlb.com's top 100 so maybe you could ask for more given that and the fact pitching in general is risky.

Cubs have 5 position players leading the all star vote.

Rizzo, Bryant, Zobrist, Fowler, and Russell.

Russell and Fowler are in close races. Rizzo is destroying everyone and Bryant has a decent lead on Arrenado. Jason Heyward is 4th in voting and Soler is like 6th or 7th lol. this isnt including Jake and LEster who could easily be all stars. I got a feeling Lester will get snubbed because the Cubs will probably have so many players.

Can't we just do the cubs present roster vs the field? I'm willing to bet it'd be a close game.

I'm not very versed on minor league players, does this guy have the type of stuff that could be hard on lefties. Richard is the classic case that just throwing with your left hand isn't enough.

Sheffield would be a starting pitching prospect not a arm to replace Richard today.

No it wouldn't.

Cubs have 4 of the top 25 starters in baseball in fWAR and 3 of the top 11 hitters. On a 1 game basis i think they could keep up though anything can happen in a 1 game sample.

My biggest pet peeve with the rules. Take away the check call away from the umpire. There is no reason for them to decide if it is not a check swing or not. They should have no say in it. I have seen so many do it and be wrong.

It would be interesting if it was not a exabition game. Like Arreta starting it which pretty much puts the Cubs in favor.

What do you think a check swing is?

Let me clarify, I meant home plate umpire. I believe the first and third base umpires should make the call.

Was wondering what you meant by that.

And that could be said for any team for one game.

My peeve is i think like a Catcher is able to ask for an appeal after a ball is called, the batter should be able to ask for one if HP ump calls it a swing

Kershaw > Arrieta especially today/this year.

Shaw strikes out a lot of guys which glam's him up more. Looking outside of that there is little difference in the two. Add to it Jake still has another gear that he can get to and he is matching him.
