Shaw strikes out a lot of guys which glam's him up more. Looking outside of that there is little difference in the two. Add to it Jake still has another gear that he can get to and he is matching him.

So you are agreeing with DT

Shortly after the Rockies acquired Jose Reyes, the Yankees were willing to part with shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo and pay half of the $22MM that is owed to Reyes annually through the 2017 season, Heyman hears.

That's like.... fairly insane no? Mateo is like basically a top 25 prospect. I can't believe they didn't do that deal.

Kinda crazy game in San Diego, the Mariners were down 12-2 at the start of the 6th and won 16-13

Yeah, there's a lot more to it than "more strikeouts". Like the fact Kershaw has only 5 BB in 86.2 innings where as Arrieta is at 25 BB in 75 innings. I love Jake, think he has been as good as anyone in the league not named Clayton Kershaw but Clayton Kershaw, a future HOF who is going to go down as one of the best ever, has simply been better than him by a fairly decent margin.

I didn't catch who was reporting it but PTI was talking about an apparent whisper out there that Harper might get 15 years $50 mil/per. That seems insane. I can't believe that.

I've heard $500 mil a lot but $750 mil? Yeah, I can't quite get there but never underestimate baseball owners.

I honestly wonder what the opportunity cost is for taking a lesser deal to make a "super team" for a player is. For example, if you have the chance to be a star on a historically great run of teams(a la the late 90's yankees), how much is that worth in endorsements and various other ways of making money? I think the most Jordan ever made as a player was like $35 mil a year but his shoe brand is now worth billions. It's hard to imagine that happening if he's not one of the all time greatest winners.

Often times you see the A-Rod situation where he sucks up all the available money and ends up in a bad situation. Obviously, Heyward has more or less done this ploy. So, it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Same ol' Shark: Giants spot him a 4 run lead in the 5th (should have been more), and he allows 4 HR in 5th and 6th. 6-4 Cards.

When Shark leaves his pitches up, that's what happens. Giants would be tough with Cueto and Bumgarner in playoffs, but Shark is easy prey. I believe he will have a difficult time pitching well with pressure. Oakland traded him to the White Sox for a bag of chips after the Cubs fleeced Billy Beane. That tells you something.

The last-place Rays aren’t ready to sell yet, but they could be “very active” in shopping players prior to the deadline if they don’t begin climbing up the standings, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports. The Rays are deep in both pitching and outfielders, two areas that will be in demand, and infielder Steve Pearce could also draw plenty of interest. After a disappointing showing last season, Pearce has returned to his 2014 form in slashing .302/.389/.527 with eight home runs and nearly as many walks (18) as strikeouts (22) in 149 plate appearances. The 33-year-old, who’s on a palatable $4.75MM salary, is scheduled to become a free agent at season’s end.

From mlb trade rumors

The Cubs wouldn’t trade Kyle Schwarber for Andrew Miller, a source tells Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman pegs the Yankees and Cubs as good trade partners given Chicago’s possible weakness in the back of the bullpen and New York’s need for young position player talent. Schwarber, of course, is out of action until 2017 after undergoing season-ending surgery in early April but is still one of the game’s most highly-touted young sluggers.

If that's what the Yanks are starting at good fucking luck getting Miller.

Really good deal for the White Sox. EJ wasn't cutting it and Tatis is super young and years away. Plus the White Sox get over 50% of James' salary paid. It gives them three legit starters and helps the bullpen get much needed rest.
