I'm currently in the south suburbs, about 5 minutes away from the 57-80 interchange. We would like to move to the southwest suburbs near the 80-355 interchange.
Just move within walking distance of Pollyanna.

My BiL owns a bottle shop, so I don't really have to worry about going to breweries anymore. That said, Pollyanna is a great place to go. Kind of a tight squeeze, but one of the nicest inside and outdoor areas that you can find.

I feel like they opened up a second location in Roselle (maybe?). Those guys do great stuff.

The Roselle location is the first Pollyanna I went to. I lived in St Charles then and Lemont always seemed like a long haul. When I moved to Wheaton, Lemont was much closer so we went to the original location. Of course as soon as I moved out of St. Charles, Pollyanna opened a location there too. The outdoors was full, but we found a table inside actually that evening. I feel like it was around September 2019 or so when we were there. Weather was just starting to get cooler.

Prior to going to Germany, I used to love their Hefe. Germany ruined it for me though. Had it this past summer after picking it up from Binnys.. just wasn't the same anymore.

I just had a hefe the other day from somewhere, and I thought it was fantastic. Can't remember where from now. The banana and spice flavors of a hefe is amazing. My brother and I want to do a trip through Germany and see if we can find anything on our family. Hefeweissens and dunkels are two of my top reasons to do so.

If you find out, let me know.

Is this a country wide trip, or a specific region you're looking to do? Bavaria is really the pure beer scene of Germany. But other styles like Kolsch's, altbier are from western Germany, and then Berliner Weiss's are.. well you can guess where they come from.

Just something to remember whenever you do this trip, find a way to Bamberg in Bavaria so you can get a Raunchbier.

We've traced our family back to the Palatinate region of Germany, which is along the western border and butts up against Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. I'm under the assumption that with which how much borders changed that there is some family blood/influence from any of those three countries as well.

I had family that lived near Darmstadt, which at the time was Hesse (they left in the 1850s for America). What I was able to trace through German records available online is they pretty much stayed put there for a long long time despite numerous border changes, Napoleon Wars, and what not. Other family was from Hamburg.

Mom's side is from Sweden. Have zero idea of where to start there.

My moms grandmother came directly from Sweden, so we know all of that and where exactly they came from.

Usually for trying to find out more, you try to find any immigration records to America that would give you hints. All depends on when they came to America of course.

Side yard. Its slanted, rotted railroad ties, exposed nails. Shitty path from the garage side door down to the backyard. Three tiers. Need a company to do it so saving up a bit. Got an estimate of 10K a couple years ago but hoping to find a cheaper one for Christssake.

We typically do 2-3 projects a year but this one will be expensive so this is it. Got solar last year and we stained, power washed (electric) it ourselves during quarantine. That was fun.

My boys are 8 and 7 years old. We balling out Griswold style in 2021. Aint got no time for projects other than that.

Man, its a nightmare. Yes. Three of them. I tried to upload some pictures here but they were too big. No way should it cost 10K though.

I tore out one of those, only had the one and it was 4 ties tall. took a sawzall to the rebar holding them together and then ripped them out, cut em up and threw them in a tiny dumpster I rented for 100 bux. it was a ton of work but I only charged myself $0.

Which is why I did my own when I moved into my own house, but it was simple. Not 3 tiers lol. Couple friends, case of beer and some burgers and we were done in a day.

@DC maybe try to find a contractor who will do just the labor portion. Go out and buy all the material yourself and have them delivered. Most contractors are going to take the cost of the materials and mark it up anywhere from 15% - 30%...or more.

cool path idea @DC

Go grab some big stumps from your municipal clean up dump. get a really long chainsaw, saw crosswise like 4 inch slices. stain them with boat deck seal and pound them into a path. looks nice, cheap af.

10K is a ton of money for that kind of work. Rent the equipment and do it yourself. You'll learn something new and walk a little taller when you're done. Plus keep some of your money.

Thanks for the advice ya'll but I don't have the skills, tools, or time for this project. I will research and who knows, maybe I'll get a wild hair up my ass. Its a lot of dirt/debris and a super steep slope.

Off to make them doughnuts.
