I thought this would be a fun exercise to do now that the draft is complete. A lot of posters, myself included, like to look back on past drafts multiple years later and point to players who we should've drafted.

Now's your time to call your shot. Go on record here. Knowing how the draft fell, who would you have taken with our picks instead of going the route of Poles? We can bump this thread in a year or two and see who actually called that diamond in the rough.

Rules:
  • No trades-You have to use the picks as Poles used them
  • Player has to available on the pick you're redrafting them at
    • Example, Christian Watson taken at 34, not available to Bears at 39
I'll start

39: George Pickens, WR UGA (originally taken 52). Talented WR with #1 WR potential to help Fields. I feel better about this pick after seeing him chose by Pittsburgh as they have a long track record of finding, and developing very good WRs.

48: Bernahard Raimann, OT CMU (originally taken 77). Potential LT of the future. I'm not sure if we have a long-term LT on the team. Jenkins played RT in college (not to mention his back injury history) and Borom was projected at guard. Raimann solidifies that spot for 10 years.

71: Dylan Parham, OG Memphis (originally taken 90). Athletic player. Played both tackle and guard in college. Will settle in at guard and offers a nice scheme fit with his athleticism.

168: Derion Kendrick, CB UGA by way of Clemson (originally taken 212). Starting CB on two national championship teams. Big game experience starting at both Clemson and UGA. 6' frame to start opposite JJ.

174: Matt Araiza, P SDSU (originally taken 180). The Punt God. Can kick the shit out of the ball. Perfect replacement for O'Donnell. Slipped a little because his hang time isn't up to NFL standards yet, but that's nothing he can't work on. A weapon that can flip field position with one swing of his leg.

186: Cade Mays, OG, Tenn by way of UGA (originally taken 199). Former 5-star recruit. Has played all 5 position on the OL offering great positional versatility. I think with time he could be groomed to take over for Whitehair at LG.

203: Quentin Lake, Safety UCLA (originally taken 211) Solid safety. 4.6 40, with a good amount of experience. Second team all-Pac 12. Not spectacular but can help the depth at safety and be a core special teamer.

207: Jonathan Ford, DT Miami (originally taken 234). Big body NT. 6'5, 330. Not gonna offer an interior pass rush but can keep blockers off the LBs. Could be a decent rotational piece.

226: Kalon Barnes, CB Baylor (originally taken 242). Big time speed running a sub 4.3 40. This is a guy you take a flyer on because you can't teach that speed. Pure development CB.

254: Charleston Rambo, WR Miami by way of OU (originally undrafted). This may be a homer pick, but I'm surprised he went undrafted, I thought he'd be 5th round selection so grabbing him in the 7th here. Big time production in his one year at Miami after not being featured at Oklahoma.

255: Jalen Wydermyer, TE Texas A&M (originally undrafted). This guy was at one point the top TE in his draft class. Productive at Texas A&M, but tested poorly. I think he would've been worth drafting and developing as backup TE.

Let's see your Re-Draft for future #CalledIt thread bumps

39: Kyler Gordon - CB - I think this was phenomenal value. An easy pick for Poles.

48: George Pickens - WR - I thought Pickens showed flashes of being a #1 WR. Not sure how he tested medically.

71: Bernard Raimann - LT/LG - You can’t go wrong upgrading the offensive line. Raimann can compete at LT or develop behind Whitehair at LG.

168: Braxton Jones - OT - I liked this pick. He has ideal length and good athleticism.

174: Dominique Robinson - DE - Another pick I liked from Poles. Freak athlete that needs time to develop.

186: Amare Barno - DE - I would have double dipped on freak athlete edge defenders. It’s a premium position and I think Quinn should be traded ASAP.

203: Kalia Davis - DT - Rotational defensive lineman. He has great athleticism but missed a lot of time.

207: Eric Kramer - C - Another pick I liked from Poles. He might stick around on the practice squad being a local kid - that the Bears can develop.

226: Bo Melton - WR - Big play WR with game breaking speed.

254: Elijah Hicks - S - Good program and loved his energy lol.

255: Trenton Gill - P - Sure snag a punter. As long as he is cheap it really doesn’t matter.

Even PFF has the Lions finishing worse than the Bears. Nothing ever changes.

? What part of "character concerns" do you Pickens fanboys not understand?

We finally got rid of Anthony Miller and Javon Wims but sure let's bring in another entitled dickhead. Brilliant.

Seriously, I'm not even joking here.... WTF is wrong with you people?

Someone explain the obsession with this guy because I don't get it at all.

I loved Pickens game and he was who I really wanted in this draft but I wasn't informed about how bad the character concerns were and he was never going to be an option for Pace who is putting a major emphasis on character while he builds this team.
Steelers have an established culture and can afford to take chances.

I liked Pickens, and going into the draft he was the guy that made the most sense to me for where the Bears were picking. But the character concerns were out there, and getting into a car crash the night before the draft didn't help those concerns He came away with a head injury, after he cracked it on the windshield, and a citation for not wearing a seat belt. I'm sure teams dropped him on their boards. I didn't like any other receiver at 39 and going cornerback there made a ton of sense to me

Usually people wait for them to play games before they re-draft. Like our friend Boomer Esiason thinking Mac Jones would go #1 overall after 3 games.

Aye, when you add the injury concerns on top of the immense character flaws it's even more baffling. It's not like he had insane college production to make those flaws worth overlooking either.

Then add in the type of players (trait and culture wise) the Bears were targeting and it makes even less sense. I'd bet my left nut he wasn't even on Poles board at all, and if by some chance he was that pre-draft car crash surely took him off. That's some Dwayne Haskins level decision making right there.

I'm sure him and Anthony Miller will be a great influence on each other in that locker room. Good luck with that Pittsburg! ?

I'll gladly take the 25 year old with good character, 4.31 speed, and YAC ability over the immature 21 year old entitled diva coming off an ACL.

Sounds like a lot of WRs: a me-first guy. If you have an HC that commands respect that can easily be dealt with. Doesn't sound like anything worth dropping him off your board.

The point of this thread is to call your shot before there's NFL film on these guys for a nice #CalledIt thread bump.

Poles has definitely put a lot of pressure on himself with this draft. I sincerely hope it works out. Even though I've been critical, I'd rather the Bears be good than I be right.

If Gordon and Brisker turn out to be studs---and Pickens, Skyy and Raimann are mediocre or suck---then we'll all look back and say Poles saw something others didn't. And he'll deserve the credit, for sure. And we can all good-naturedly rib each other for being armchair GMs who were so very wrong. Good times. I hope this happens.

But if Pickens, Skyy, Raimann or other young talented WRs/OLs Poles passed on turn out to be great, that's not a good look. It's not not. And Poles will absolutely deserve the blame. And people will say, "Hey, hindsight is 20/20." But it's not a matter of hindsight. There are people right here right now critical of the offseason plan.

As to the original post, I'm sorry---I'm not drafting a punter or kicker ever. Let other people go hunting for their Janikowskis and Sauerbruns. That's fine. I'll sign the guys metrics say have just as likely or unlikely a chance to actually impact wins and losses.

This is stupid. Those players are now on different teams, in different situations. Doesn’t matter if they turn out good or not. Poles didn’t think they were a fit here, and there’s ZERO guarantee they would be good if he did draft them for here.

Now, if the players he did draft suck…that is something we can critique him for…

Already with the excuses for when these players the Bears passed on start killing it.....

It's just as fair to judge a GM for the players he passed on as it is to judge him for the players he chose.

It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact. Are you honestly going to say the situation is the same between us and Pitt? A new Coaching staff in a rebuild compared to one of the most stable franchises in the league?

You guys just want to find something to whine about…
