Do you think Coby at his absolute best, has an argument over BG7 at his best?

Yes, I'm joshing you (for those who don't know the history).
Before this run I would have said no, but he is playing insane right now so he does have a case. I would have liked to see BG in this era though. More freedom to shoot 3s would suit him nicely (Coby took 15 threes the other night in Orlando).

Perhaps he would have developed his ball handling more in this era also. He had lead guard potential coming out of Connecticut.

Given that Coby's absolute best might arguably right now, I think he can at least give BG a run for his money. BG still had higher scoring individual games than Coby while taking less 3s, so BG might still get an edge in the end. BG taking 15 3s in a game on a regular basis is an interesting thought exercise if nothing else...dude could fill it up and get to the line as well. Coby is only just now starting to get to the line...maybe he still has a little more ceiling he can reach for 3pt efficiency consistently, but he's scoring well on all 3 levels lately plus getting to the line so hard to fault Coby much in this recent stretch.

I do think Coby has beaten BG on handles though, early on in his career he and BG had similar issues, but Coby has really improved that over the last 2 years and tightened up a lot.

here we go again with Coby...

remember when he had that hot stretch on his rookie contract? back then, folks thought coby was a piece to build around and the notion of trading him then was considered absurd by most on here

then, coby came back to earth and the bulls ended up giving him a decent 2nd contract.

now, here we are again...a hot stretch from coby and we have posters saying how the bulls should build around him again.

at what point do we realize that it is just time to sell high on Coby this offseason and get something decent for him in return? my guess is we dont, and in another year folks will be saying how we shoulda traded him in hindsight

Even if Coby maintains this level of play, they should probably still trade him because he is never gonna be the #1 option that this team needs to get into the next level.

That said, Coby's been playing very well of late and I do think it's fair to say that. I didn't see anyone saying Bulls should build around him here just recently, but maybe I missed said post

yes, he has been playing well recently. we have just seen this script play out before

and i never said anyone claimed it recently, i was referring back to his last hot streak of a similar nature, i believe it was like 2022/2023 time frame, before he got the 2nd contract

just saying lets not fall into the same traps we have before with a player. he has exactly the same win share rate as he had last year currently...its not like he has really improved much

Well I agree with you, Coby is not the guy that is going to lead this team anywhere, and he has done this before where he plays super well for a month or so but the rest of the season it's not there. It's not season long production we're talking about here, which would maybe be a different discussion.

Same thing with Giddey really, he is playing at a level currently that he has not shown in the earlier parts of the season at almost any point, but still we must acknowledge he is playing super well right now in this moment.

I think AK is going to fall into the trap and say Coby and Giddey are the backcourt of the future because look at how they're playing right now, if they string it together for a whole season that's a legit backcourt. We are not going to get this level of play for an entire season from either of them, I'm calling it now.

You can argue to keep one of them around for the future as a piece of the puzzle, but the biggest piece of the puzzle remains missing either way and until that piece arrives, this team is spinning their wheels and going nowhere fast.

I feel like Kenny's thoughts in this video are pretty representative of mine on this whole stretch since the deadline. He's watched more games than I have for sure, but I don't think there's an opinion in there that I would disagree with other than the last part about signing Giddey with no complaints. But my disagreement is mostly on what he signs for, I don't think I'd be comfortable at more than 25M/year, and at this rate I feel like he's getting 30+ easily from AK.
