And the Cubs realized it was the shitty socks and decided to take them to the cleaners.

Isn’t Shaw ready for another shot? Cubs shouldn’t be trading for more hitting. They need to use any assets for pitching.

He opened up game 2 and closed that game with HR's

I think that he is close.

I am pretty sure that they are focused on Ballestroes getting some playing time right now vs adding another bun in the oven.

When Happ returns next week it would not shock me to see Ballestroes returned to Iowa and Shaw brought back up.

When Shota returns we will see what they do with Cade. As of right now I would say that he goes back to Iowa. He is doing alright. But I don't think that he is better than the 5 in the rotation ATM. Just getting 5 innings is a achievement.

So on their needs? It really depends on how now through the ASG goes. Injuries always play their part. Pen woes add to it

Random thoughts from a casual fan:

Rea has been a nice surprise. I wonder if he could supplant Merryweather as a setup guy when Shota comes back? Then Horton could hang around a little longer and get some more big league starts.

Or maybe it makes more sense not to overmanage and leave Rea in the starting rotation and get Horton some middle relief innings or send him back down. Asad never really seemed like an answer at sp.

Is Palencia for real or will his control wander off again? Unless they fall out of the race Ricketts should be prepared to sell his grand children to human traffickers for a real closer before the deadline. Their championship window will only exist as long as Tucker is a Cub.

I thought Seiya might look rusty in left but he's been solid and even made a few exceptional plays out there.

Nice for Ballesteros to get a cup of coffee with the mothership but when Happ is back there is no place to put him on this roster unless Amaya or Kelly ever go on il.

No one can say they didn't try to fix 3b - Bregman would have put this team over the top. But Lopez can't hit and Berti is always a throwing error away from giving up a big inning. Turner should never start at any position. Whatever they are waiting for from Shaw I hope he shows it soon.

#1 no. Jed tends to keep it simple. Cade will go back down to take what he learned and work on his short comings. Merryweather lost 2 MPH on his fastball. This falls under trade deadline issues

#2. Palencia will never be real until he puts together a full season of success. It could be this year. But that is why you play the games.

#3 he is not Happ out there. His bat is better. LF tends to be the least demanding OF position.

#4 agree. I think it adds to his trade value. I do not see a avenue for him with the Cubs. Well unless they dump Happ to afford Tucker. Too early ATM but teams will have targets and Ballestroes has a bullseye on him.

#5. Boston over paid and pissed off Devers in the process. I question their thought process. Chicago put up a fair market offer. Boston just went out and pushed out a over pay that affects the future of the positional value.

Not a smart business contract offer. More of a desperation to be relevant in the AL East move.

I'm pretty sure that Jed wants to get back to opening day roster as much as possible. Rea and Steele are fixtures right now. He adjusted with Flexen in Rea's role.

That means Happ back at lead off and PCA as the bottom of the order LH power stick. Shaw back at 3B batting #9.

The pen he wanted Pressly closing and Hodge setting up. That has turned into a flop. That might end up a forced hand issue. Palencia has performed well to date. But Hodge did the same last year and it did not hold up this year.

So that should end up a trade target. I don't see a band aid fix here. It will take a major trade and the over all cost will come down to years of control attached.

This is a watch list as of right now

Bregman has been everything Boston could have hoped for and more thus far, and that brought you to the conclusion they overpaid?

Yes

years/$120M (2025-27)
signed by Boston as a free agent 2/12/25
$5M signing bonus, paid 1/15/28
25:$35M, 26:$40M, 27:$40M
Bregman may opt out of contract after 2025 and 2026 World Series
$60M is deferred ($20M annually), to be paid 2035-46

Go back on your tricycle Jr. We are doing big person talking

Bregman has company on the list of the top-paid third basemen in baseball.

The Los Angeles' Angels Anthony Rendon is second among the highest-paid MLB third basemen with a contract salary of $35 million per season, while the St. Louis Cardinals' Nolan Arenado is third at $32.5 million.

He is followed by the San Diego Padres' Manny Machado at $31.8 million per season.

Matt Chapman of the San Francisco Giants comes in fifth, with a salary of $25.2 million per season.

So he blew the AAV out of the water.

Like I said. CHC made a competitive offer. Rendon has been a albatross from a org. That is known for making stupid signings. Manny should have been the bar. Jed made a offer along those lines. And Boston decided to go 10M AAV over it while having a all star level 3B that they dissed by saying. That was the old GM. Don't apply to me

So go back on your trike. 2 months doesn't not equal a 10M AAV overpay. Boston did it to be relevant again and didn't care who they pissed on. As that Drama is still unfolding

This is my ultimate lineup. PCA, Suzuki, Tucker, happ, Swanson, Busch, Horner, C, Shaw. Nightmare matchup to play the matchup. Horner restarts the lineup with Shaw and their speed. Shaw showed good discipline just couldn’t drive the ball. He is making adjustments. That is a long lineup mixed with power and speed all over

We will see if PCA sticks at the lead off after Happ returns. Happ tanked his SLG for OBA this year and they have won with him leading off.

But you give the most PA to your best hitters. I could see Happ in at #4 and Busch dropped to #7.

Just easier to keep Happ there though. Switch hitter so less tinkering and bat swaps. Bad enough with Suzuki and Tucker swapping.

With PCA you will end up swapping him and Happ anyways with a lefty.

Keep it simple stupid.
