Sounds like Brasier returning from the DL. Porter to the DL.

Little info

Minors:

Horton 8-6 2.79 ERA 1.03 WHIP
Brown 19-17 3.67 ERA 1.28 WHIP
Steele 18-23 3.48 ERA 1.38 WHIP
Boyd 22-21 2.35 ERA 0.96 WHIP
Taillon 20-25 3.51 ERA 1.17 WHIP

Horton is clearly pretty dominant when he is pitching against players with the same experience. Only Boyd was more dominant coming up and he had 426 IP in the minors so he was on the other side toying with young hitters in rehabilitation stints.

Over all Horton has TOR make up. I would just nurture it.

Actually looking at it. Boyd has been a great signing. He has been everything that Steele was and really lessened that loss.

Let's just hope that he gets 30 starts in. That is the big hurdle

Maybe just use Flexen to close. Seems like he just comes in and takes care of business. That is what you want in the 9th

He has a 0.00 ERA

That was my reference. Him and Pomeranz have been stable
and has pitched in low leverage situations is my reference

low leverage pitching is different than high leverage pitching

That is fair. But beggers can not be choosers

Cubs need outs.

If Matt Shaw fixed his timing, good luck. This lineup is just so long

He lowered his leg kick. But that was later in his stint. His main adjustment was standing up straiter in the box. That is why he is driving it more. Before he would get leaning over the plate more and going oppi.

Pen:

Palmeraz 0.00 ERA. .58 WHIP. .118 BAA
Flexen. 0.00 ERA. 1.00. WHIP. .188 BAA
Keller 2.91 ERA. 1.11 WHIP. .213 BAA
Thielbar 2.70 ERA. .96. WHIP. .161 BAA
Palencia 2.30 ERA. .96. WHIP. .145 BAA

Guys I trust right now in the pen. Palmeraz looks like a steal right now. I would close with him

Palencia and Thielbar both should set up

Flexen first guy out of the pen

Keller in on low leverage 2 inning stints.

Rest should mop up stuff. Merryweather, Roberts and Pressley.

Ugly win.

Ya he struggles too much right now. Jed has most likely made his decision and is just waiting for Shota to return.

Jed is going to end up renting at least 1 starter and a closer at this rate.

If Jed would have targeted Robertson vs traded for Pressly this would have been a lesser issue going in.

Now he is paying on a failure. Has to add to payroll for 2 more non cheap options

He got stronger as the game went on. He doesn’t have a ton of pitching experience. He has to learn to be a pitcher. Needs some more aggression as well, but he gives us 5 while learning can’t ask for much more right now

It was a ugly 5 innings. He had less than 200 IP in the minors. Pretty much every Cubs starter has 300-500 IP in the minors.

Watching the game I was kind of thinking his counterpart looks like a more finished product that you would want out of Horton. He had a sinker and change up that were pretty good and that helps get some easy outs. Horton tends to work too hard to get through innings
