Have you been advocating that Bolland is not expendable?

In any event, even before the latest concussion I have said that he's likely expendable because Stan and Scotty and Norm have seen the checking 3rd line future and it's name is Phillip Danault. Period. I fervently believe this. I don't think many fans understand how blood thirsty this kid is to succeed at ALL levels of hockey and how much he keeps working to improve his game as a motivator or how close he likely is to the big show. It's like he's Cujo---all he does is play hockey, practice hockey, and in his off-time studies Hawks tapes of more hockey that he has the club send him. And it sucks for Bolland but Danault's efforts are palpably visible on the ice.

He's taken that #2C opportunity, and completely fucking failed. That's pretty much all I have to say about it.

Well in seasons past I was always on the record as not liking him on the 2nd centering for Hossa but folks kept saying that it worked in the past and that he just needed another shot. I always advocate for Hossa-Toews. . .natch!, heh. Nevertheless I never had a problem with the other ways that Bolland's game evolved into which was being a pretty devious little annoying snake on the 3rd and keeping opposition top lines in check. Didn't even care that he was getting 2C bank while being a master of the 3rd because he was so good at the latter ESPECIALLY in the post-season. I just think times change and unfortunately for him "change" = Danault. That hockey reality coupled with the concussion history is not weighing the scales in his favor IMO. If we could just get a solid 2C for several years while we see if McNeill can develop that would be ideal. McNeill is such a hoss, so hard so move off the puck---I still feel he could be the Hawks 2C of the future if developed properly.

that was an incredible streak. wont forget it ever. take the loss that was eventually going to come and move on. hawks are going to have some tricky games coming up with the injuries to key players. its next chapter time.

I'm not bitter about the streak, but did anyone else feel like the refs missed more than a couple of calls tonight? I'll even concede that they blew the Oduya DOG clearing attempt.

If anything tonight showed a team that might be in need of some call ups that can handle a few more minutes than guys like Bollig. That was a tired team. But they have an easier schedule coming up so that could go a long way to giving a few guys a little rest up. Lot of the top logging minutes guys looked gassed tonight. Kane, Seabs, Keith, Hossa (he didn't look healthy) even Toews at times looked beat tired. Not surprised. It wasn't only physical exhaustion it was mental also (which usually go hand in hand). Hell of a lot of off passing and turn overs and a little too many lazy penalties all pointed to a tired team.

Now that the Hawks have to overcome adversity.... will they even make the playoffs?

Drone strike everyone... blow up the team, start from scratch.

Great streak and was bound to come to an end sometime. Should be interesting to see how they bounce back against the Oilers tomorrow. Agree about Bolland, he's been terrible and is showing why he was never fancied in the #2 role.

Yeah, Bolland didn't have a good night, not that the team as a whole did. He might be playing himself out of the long-terms plan. All that could of course change if he turns on beast mode in the playoffs.

Anyone relieved that the first regulation loss is out of the way now? I have a feeling that the team might also let a sigh of relief. At least they will stop getting questions about it all the time.

Actually yeah. I mean sure I would have loved to see us go 50% the way through the season without a regulation lose but at least now all the TV guys will STFU about the streak.

To be fair, he's playing the worst I've seen him during his entire career.

Because he's now playing outside of his abilities...on the second line and being expected to produce offense

He's best suited for a 3rd line role..play a north/south game...chip in offensively on occasion. He's not a consistant offensive player, cannot create time/space for others on his line. All teams need to do is roll coverage to Kane on that line and take him away. Bolland is no threat.

Hopefully he can at least get his 44.8% faceoff percentage up to his career average of 46.8%

Similar to a Kyle Calder type.

The part that really stood out to me while watching the game was they physicality of Colorado, laying hits (sometimes illegal, and with high sticks) that weren't called, and our guys just kind of stood there looking at the refs with palms in the air "are you going to call that ref?" as the play continued past them.

If you aren't going to get the calls from the refs, at least continue playing instead of standing there.
