Cue Chelsea Dagger, the Blackhawks have nearly clinched their 4th straight playoff berth* after another goalie peppering, this time against the St. Louis Blues.

The Blackhawks outshot the Blues 40-20 in the game and eventually beating the #1 team in the league in a 4-2 shootout win.

Corey Crawford was able to keep the puck out of the net on all four Blues attempts in the shootout with a little bit of help from his goal posts. Although he was only challenged with 20 shots in the game, he was able to come up large when it counted by making key saves at the right time. Another interesting stat: Corey Crawford's career .792 SV% in the shootout (38-of-48) leads all active NHL netminders. However, the real story of the game came at the other end of the rink where Jaroslav Halak weathered the onslaught of pucks that the Blackhawks fired towards him, but could not come up with the final save in the shootout.

Unlike the Devils game, the Blackhawks line of Sharp, Kruger, and Stalberg dominated the game on another level, while the rest of the team was able to dominate in their own right throughout the game. More specifically, Sharp and Stalberg showed moments of brilliance and possibly one of their best games as a duo together. They were able to generate 13 shots as well as 3 hits and plus-2 rating between the two of them. To put that in perspective, they accounted for 32.5% of the shots generated by an entire team of 18 skaters.

On the negative side, the power-play saw it's struggles once again, but they finally fired a shot on goal after their destruction of eight straight power-plays without a single shot hitting the net. On the other end of the spectrum, the penalty-kill has continued to do an excellent job shutting down opportunities while shorthanded.

The most spectacular play of the night did not result in a goal, or even a shot on net. Marian Hossa stripped the puck on the forecheck and slid his way behind the net for a centering pass that found it's way back to Hossa, hopped off his stick and he got off a clean backhand attempt picking it out of the air that just missed the net wide. Had it gone in, it probably would have been the play of the year.

Although Shaw is not one of the Blackhawks three stars for the game, he also had a memorable game that deserves an honorable mention. His 5 hits on the night led the team while also blocking 2 shots and gaining a plus-1 rating. Regardless, statistics do not do justice to explain his contributions.

Another honorable mention related to the Blackhawks turnaround has to be Joel Quenneville. Despite the criticism Quenneville has received with the Blackhawks 9-game losing streak and throughout the season, he has adjusted the system and turned around the Blackhawks woes into positives.

As mentioned before, Stalberg and Sharp also had their magical moments of the night including on the Blackhawks third goal. With a 2-on-0 break, Stalberg centered the pass to Sharp where he ripped it past Halak top shelf.

Dave Bolland's shootout winner was also a beauty to be seen after he has gone 0-and-7 for his career shootout attempts.

*Although the Hawks have not mathematically clinched a playoff spot tonight, it is nearly impossible for them miss the post-season. Due to the schedule, the Stars, Sharks and Kings must win out and the Blackhawks must lose out the rest of the season. The reason this is impossible is because the Sharks play the Kings twice as well as the Stars, which means none of these teams can win out the rest of the season.

BLACKHAWKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Patrick Sharp

2. Viktor Stalberg

3. Dave Bolland

20 points in the last month. Is there a hotter team in the NHL over the last month? And without Toews. 9-2-2

He's been good lately, but if anyone deserves to be in the top 3 for tonights game instead of Sharp, Stalberg, or Bolland, I think it has to be Shaw.

Not a bad game at all (cept that last Blues goal) but meh... we won. I'm happy. They have my assurances that they're in the playoffs now. With 2 games against Minnesota ahead, there's no way we can **** this up.

I think another thing to be mentioned is the turnaround behind the bench. Although the Blackhawks have continued to struggle on the power-play I think Quenneville deserves a lot of credit for adjusting the system and getting the absolute most out of his line-up despite many giving up on the team, even suggesting missing the playoffs due to their struggles.

I'll agree but know he was nudged to stop the run and gun that left them giving up so many goals. It was what started turning things around near the end of the 9 game losing streak.

The Defensive minded play has been night and day since then.

As for the PP while it's sucked remember the last two games they have played the #1 and #2 PK in the league.

St. Louis is 2 for it's last 73, and one of those two was the hawks. NJ was even crazier if I remember.

JT's return should improve that and remember this team HAS playoff experience out the ass. Serious experience!

There ws no way they were going to **** it up BEFORE tonight. It was like 99.7% chance. 10-2-2 in their last 14 says they haven't fucked MUCH up at all lately.

I'm not as worried about the PP as most are, although registering ZERO shots on eight attempts did have me thinking. As long as the PK takes care of business it really doesn't matter how bad the PP is. IMO this team is fine 5-on-5.

Another too many men on the ice penalty leaves me thinking the bench has their heads up their ass. That was a TMM in the offensive zone! How fucked up is that when you consider the bad PK line change in New Jersey.

Great win, but that shit has to stop.

Tony what impresses me most about Q is that he took the advise and used it. From my understanding that's not typical Q. Whether it was "strongly" suggested or not, he used the input. That to me gets some respect. Because he changed the way he did things. He also did it in the Finals in 2010 when he moved the top two lines around. That was also a "suggestion".

Regardless of what happened, he has taken a beaten line-up and racked wins. A coach that is willing to adjust to the game is one that I would always accept behind the bench. If we can get JT back and when we get Keith back, once again this team will be a very TOUGH team to beat in a 7-game series. To clarify, I'm not doubting that he was given advice and took it, just saying to me it doesn't matter as long as the results are there.

While I don't think "this is the year" it very well could be if we get the right path. Personally I think this year will be similar to 08-09 while next year my expectations will be a Cup winner.

you could be right. Depends on health IMO. I think they can get to the finals if healthy. I also think the Penguins are stacked. Remember 92. LOL!

And it matters to me. If someone tells him something and it could change what's going on in a positive way, I'd expect him to try it. Part of his problem is that he wouldn't change his ways. Either way the TEAM has responded. Not sure how much coaching that is verses them stepping up. Maybe Toews going down was one of the best things that could have happened. From that time Kane has stepped up and brought the team with him. And most of the team/players would say that same statement I think.
