The Blackhawks may not be a significant player in deadline deals today, but they will certainly make a move or two. Bowman has avidly searched for a top four defenseman along with some bulk for his center depth.

It would be shocking if Bowman was unable to at least land a defenseman. Chicago has $4,794,122 in projected cap space available which is equal to $22,172,814 prorated for full contracts.

So far, the entire NHL has been slow, only four official deals have been announced with the rival Nashville Predators acquiring Andrei Kostitsyn for a 2nd round pick in 2013 kicking things off.

Sheldon Souray, Johnny Oduya, Matt Carle, Luke Schenn, and Chris Campoli have been among the defenseman available that the Blackhawks have expressed interest in leading up to the deadline. Big chip forwards include Derek Roy, Paul Gaustad, and P.A. Parenteau. Although the Blackhawks are among talks for the bigger fish on the market, that doesn't guarantee that will make a big move.

THE CHART - WHO'S HOT

updated 2:00 AM (CT)

1. Johnny Oduya, D, Winnipeg Jets 2nd + 3rd-round pick, Chicago Blackhawks

2. Derek Roy, C, Buffalo Sabres X

3. Chris Campoli, D, Montreal Canadiens X

4. Paul Gaustad, C, Buffalo Sabres 1st-round pick, Nashville Predators

5. Sheldon Souray, D, Dallas Stars X

6. Matt Carle, D, Philadelphia Flyers X

7. Brett Clark, D, Tampa Bay Lightning X

8. Luke Schenn, D, Toronto Maple Leafs X

9. Tomas Plekanec, C, Montreal Canadiens X

10. Steve Ott, C, Dallas Stars X

Slow so far. Only one move so far. Its a bit dissapointing really. We'll see if it heats up as we get closer to 2pm

it's a sellers market. If we have to give up too much, then I would be happy with no deal at all.

BINGO!

One mega player trade isn't going to help this team to the Promised Land. We had at least two legit "holes" to fill before all the recent seemingly long-term/indefinite injuries so now they have holes on top of holes to fill.

**** it! Sell what you can that is not essential for picks and prospects. If the hype about this year's Draft being so loaded is true then the Top 30 should be rock solid and still remains heavily D-slanted this year as projected. I'm gonna be hella pissed if we give away our 1st and decent prospects for a UFA rental who is gonna check out of his Chicago hotel once the season is over never to be seen in town again.

Shed some current contracts if he can and even some prospects (though Saad, Olsen, McNeil, Danault, Clendening, and Johns are NO-NOs for me) though some of the contracts I'd like to lose from the current roster wouldn't help teams that are trying to add a few pieces to compete as they are currently injured for the Hawks---it's hard to sell shit that is broken ya know.

Oh, I assure you, the upcoming Draft class is nothing to really write home about. In fact, the talent pool drops significantly after the first four, and two of them are Russians.

Yeah, it sucks that bad.

Yeah and it was a Special person one.... G Ben Bishop going from the Blues to the Senators for a 2nd rounder in 2013.... I guess that doesn't really count?

I would say the team has 3 big holes myself and have all season and going into the season

legit depth lw

Second line center

a legit number 4 blueliner

None which will be available today at a reasonable cost and stan doesn't have the balls to go big....he will just go home. I too don't think one big splash would fix all the hawks problems but at the same time it probably wouldn't hurt to get a new face on this club who is a legit nhl player who isn't over the hills.

Nothing going to be fixed until q is gone anyways by the looks of things.

Sounds like Darcy is asking for a 1st round pick. Ridiculous. Maybe a 1st rounder and a third liner for Roy, but not a rental like Gaustad. For the record I would rather have Gaustad, then see if we can sign him over the summer.

For a draft class like this, and I've heard nothing really good about it so far, I'd go for it.

But on the economic side of things, the demands are a bit insane, however.

TCD, I think you just summed it up perfectly. I am starting to think that the Bowmans know we have no chance this year due to all the injuries, shitty players, and the shitty play of good players on this team.

I think Stan is going to sit and we will squeak into the playoffs and summarily lose in the first round. Then over the summer he will make some more serious moves to stabilize the D and the bottom 6 forwards.

And thats what I'm afraid of. At least season ticket holders can be high sellers, too.
