That. Will. Not. Work. I actually over-stated how far below the cap the Bulls are: they currently sit at $54.946 million in team payroll, with the 2010-11 cap at $58 million, so in actuality they only have $3 million of cap space. The contracts of Deng and Gibson add up to $12.5 million, which means there is more than a $4 million difference between the salaries of Deng-Gibson and Anthony. So in order to complete the trade, the Bulls would need to go over the cap. However, because the deal leaves the Bulls over the cap, they can only accept 125% +$100K of the salary they trade away. Increasing the combined salaries of Deng-Gibson by 125% and adding $100K only gets us to $15.726 million. This deal simply will not work. It has to be Noah that is sent with Deng to bring in Melo, it just has to be that way unless the Bulls want to trade away everyone on their roster that is capable of playing in the front court.

Deng, gibson and JJ works. Of course, the nuggets would want some 1sts.

Actually, I meant to include James Johnson. So it would be Deng-Gibson-Johnson -for- Anthony.

Would that work?

Right, but then who do you have left to fill in should Noah or Boozer need a night off? I'm not a big fan of Tyrus Thomas Lite (Johnson), but at the same time I don't want him getting both his and Taj's minutes. If you send Noah with Deng, you at least maintain some form of depth in the front court. It may not be good, but it's something, and it's cheap, too.

Asik and Thomas can fill in for them and Melo can play a little 4. We can also sign a minimum guy too for depth, certainly can't be much worse than JJ.

It could, the salaries fit under the 125% rule for Denver. Thing is though, I don't think they'd want to take Gibson and Johnson, there's no value there. And when the deadline is approaching and they're looking at losing Melo or exchanging salaries for two "meh" players at-best, I think they'd rather be closer to the cap than have to pay Deng and Johnson and Gibson. I really think it's Noah or bust for them when they look at the Bulls right now, and Deng-Gibson-Johnson at the deadline probably isn't going to change their minds, mainly because they'd still have the same cap issues for the coming years, but have little to show for it.

Eh, we'll see if throwing a 1st round draft pick in their direction will get them to pull the trigger on that trade. We'll see where the chips fall.
