Guys, we all know that the Cubs are getting Pujols and/or Fielder next season. Who's ever even heard of Gonzalez?

Will not happen.
How so? The Cardinals don't have the money to re-sign him and the Cubs will. Plus the Cubs have no 1st baseman of the future in their farm system, so I could see this happening

Pujols would sign a $1,000,000 if it meant staying in St. Louis.

One could say they wont have the money, but the Cardinals will find a way. I will sig bet anyone for 1 year that the cubs will never sport a pujols at 1b.

You also do not need a up and coming 1bmn in the system, you can get one via trade, FA. The last thing the cubs are going to do is hand out the largest contract in baseball history after the experience they had with soriano.

you are also talking about a player in pujols that would be 31 in the FA market who has been getting these little nagging injuries that will only get worse with age. they would have to win a WS before he turns 34

As much as I abhor handing out massive multi-year deals like confetti, I'd be willing to go all out to get Gonzalez. He's still relatively young and puts up great numbers. Signing him to a long-term deal would mean not having to worry about 1B for a very long time.

So is the asking price.

The Cardinals would not let Pujols leave. Never.

No he wouldn't.
