Apparently the Cubs offered Cashner, Carpenter, Lee, and another player but the Padres said no. So IDK, I guess they just wanted the 1B.

That's a fairly significant offer in my book.. I like A-gon.. I don't know if I like him that much..

Boston had until now to work out an extension. Let's see if the deal went through anyway.

They were still at a standstill a couple minutes before the deadline.

With the Cubs only having 19 mil on the books for 2013 and after would u trade for him now and do what COL did with Tulo. Have his 2011 salarly be 6.3 mil then give him the 7 year deal he wants?

IDK, but Cashner, Carpenter, Lee, and another player is a lot, and they weren't satisfied with that and turned the Cubs down. That is just too much to give up IMO. But if the Padres would be willing to take Flaherty instead Lee and Jackson instead of Cashner I'd be really happy with a deal. But if that wasn't enough before, less isn't going to be enough now.

The BoSox apparently aren't going to try to trade for him gain either.

I would do that deal in a heart beat. And I'm not very high on Gonzo.

We really wouldn't be giving up a lot. A possible SS, 3 or 4 years down the road(who for the record, I'm not very high on), and two power relievers. Sure they could be starters, Cash probably has the best chance at that, but he'll probably end up being just a 3 or 4 starter, unless he gets another pitch. If the Cubs did that deal, that would end up favoring us, I'm sure of it. The Pads were right to say no to that deal, though.

Then i'd be just fine with the deal.

I don't wan to give up Cash and Lee. I'll give up Carpenter because you have to give up something to get a player like Gonzalez. Vitters, Jackson, Carpenter, is a trade i would do.

This deal will happen with no extension, Boston taking chance.
