Just saw on ESPN that Red Sox will get him. He was the only star id say we had a chance to get and the only star who would have helped us the most.

How was acquiring for stars working for us before? Exactly, still no pennant, still now World Championship.

But have been awfully damn close. What does rebuilding do for us. NOTHING. how many times have u seen teams build on top of building. TEX and SFG it took 50 years to do....Look at BOS,NYY,PHI..they have all won in last 10 years with SPENDING MONEY..CHC in BIG MARKET should spend money.

No, they haven't been close to winning a world series. they haven't even MADE IT THERE since 1945.

Isnt the idea to get into the playoffs then see what happens? I would rather spend money to build team that can get into playoffs then rebuild to see what MIGHT happen.

Well.. The only way we got to the last two playoffs was spending out of our butt.. Now we're paying for it.

If we can somewhat even out some salaries I'm all for grabbing some FA's but it's just the truth that we can't spend a ton right now.. Maybe Ricketts over-did it buying the Cubs.. at this point who knows..

Cot's Baseball Contracts

Here is the payroll for teams as of right now.....CHC have 103 mil tied up for 2011. with 6 arb guys should be around 120. If we spend like what we should being big market like PHI (146 right now and rumored to get more) or BOS (Will be over 140 mil once trade and FA over) then Cubs should be able to spend over 25 mil. With CHC being a big market team there is NO REASON why we cant spend what these teams do. Also if u look at 2012 we only have 63 mil and 2013 and 2014 we only have 19 mil. FOR A BIG MARKET TEAM TO WIN NEED TO SPEND MONEY. i understand that medium and small market teams have to rebuild. BIG MARKET TEAMS like NYY,BOS,CHI,PHI,LA dont have to.

thanks for posting the Cot's link.. I was trying to remember where that was yesterday.

Like I said before.. I think we can even out and work around a few salaries and improve some spots.. I think Ricketts wants it down from 144 to about 130 approx.. So there's some room to work with via trades.

I don't see us going out and grabbing a massive Free Agent this offseason. There are some good players that are available at a decent price.

No, not yet. He's an FA though.

And we're not saying that the Cubs should never spend. Just not THIS offseason.
