The Blackhawks let an early lead slip away against the Red Wings on Sunday night, suffering a season-high 4th loss in a row and 3rd straight loss at home.
The start was promising but the result the same.
Dave Bolland kicked off the scoring early on the power-play and Patrick Sharp followed it up with a goal of his own. From that point on, the offense disappeared and so did the sight of the officials.
It's really not worth going into detail about officiating--everyone who watches NHL hockey knows the inconsistencies shown by the striped clowns game-by-game. However, blatant calls that continue to be missed is upsetting when you see your own player get cross-checked right in front of an officials face, unable to defend a trickling puck from crossing the goal line. I can probably come up with an entire list of poor calls, including the penalty shot, missing the Red Wings bench clearing in overtime and Holmstrom tripping Seabrook. I could keep going but it would start to sound like the end of a Zoloft commercial where they start listing all the side effects.
Regardless, this loss hurt in more ways than one. Not only in the fashion which the Blackhawks lost, but Patrick Sharp was taken out of the game with an upper-body injury; coach Quenneville responded by stating "We'll know more [Monday]" on the extent of the injury.
With the loss of Sharp that may pave the way for Marcus Kruger to make his return sooner rather than later as the Blackhawks have slipped from 1st in the NHL to 5th in the Western Conference with his absence.
Among injury news, there is still no timetable for Dan Carcillo to return as well as no updates on the status of his injury. All details are unknown. Could this be a tactic to allow him to serve his suspension during his recovery by not announcing his injury? Something stinks and the NHL hasn't caught a whiff of it yet.
