The Blackhawks let an early lead slip away against the Red Wings on Sunday night, suffering a season-high 4th loss in a row and 3rd straight loss at home.

The start was promising but the result the same.

Dave Bolland kicked off the scoring early on the power-play and Patrick Sharp followed it up with a goal of his own. From that point on, the offense disappeared and so did the sight of the officials.

It's really not worth going into detail about officiating--everyone who watches NHL hockey knows the inconsistencies shown by the striped clowns game-by-game. However, blatant calls that continue to be missed is upsetting when you see your own player get cross-checked right in front of an officials face, unable to defend a trickling puck from crossing the goal line. I can probably come up with an entire list of poor calls, including the penalty shot, missing the Red Wings bench clearing in overtime and Holmstrom tripping Seabrook. I could keep going but it would start to sound like the end of a Zoloft commercial where they start listing all the side effects.

Regardless, this loss hurt in more ways than one. Not only in the fashion which the Blackhawks lost, but Patrick Sharp was taken out of the game with an upper-body injury; coach Quenneville responded by stating "We'll know more [Monday]" on the extent of the injury.

With the loss of Sharp that may pave the way for Marcus Kruger to make his return sooner rather than later as the Blackhawks have slipped from 1st in the NHL to 5th in the Western Conference with his absence.

Among injury news, there is still no timetable for Dan Carcillo to return as well as no updates on the status of his injury. All details are unknown. Could this be a tactic to allow him to serve his suspension during his recovery by not announcing his injury? Something stinks and the NHL hasn't caught a whiff of it yet.

BLACKHAWKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Marian Hossa

2. Dave Bolland

3. Jimmy Hayes

No point in whining about the officiating, Hawks did it all themselves by being useless on the PP opportunities again. Sure, they scored one, but another could have put this game away early. Good effort, shame about the PS, which looked to have been a goal initially, so the Wangs dodged a bullet there. At least a point. 1 out of 8 possible.

Why can't we enter the zone on the power play?!

I've thought they've been decent in that area, but once they are in the zone they are useless. Keep on doing the same plays that never work, no bodies in front of the net and shots off the legs and skates.

Any news on Sharp, didn't see the play. Could it be serious?

No point in whining about the officiating,

This is not a whine. Besides, I very rarely complain aboot the officiating.

Holmstrom trip on Seabrook should have negated a Wangs PP.

The roughing on Shaw by Ericsson.

Cleary's cross check on Leddy on the 2nd Detroit goal.

These were obvious calls "missed" by the refs. One lead directly to a goal, another indirectly.

Our PP is obviously hurting us. 1 goal is nice, but we need to make more of a dent in our overall %. Only way to do that is to score a bit more.

Officiating was brutal for the most part on both sides, Hawks obviously getting the worst non-call with the refs not calling the TTM in OT. I hope not to read about how Franzen interfered or was holding Montadors stick as none of those were the case. More or less why was Leddy on the weak side, when Datsyuk was on the strong side (I'm assuming that was his man considering Montador had his stick in Franzen).

We do need to be a tad tougher in our own zone. Maybe even overall. When a team like Detroit who everyone calls soft, out hits you at home, there might be a need to step up.

Would be nice for Kane to up his producting (3 points last 6 games). Toews is only at 4 points in 6 games, but he does more for the team so it's not as bad.

We got a point out of it, but I'd prefer to get 2.

Don't forget TMM in the OT...

Kane and Toews may not be producing at the level they should be, but neither are Hossa and Sharp.

It's times like these the depth needs to step into their place and put some points on the board.

I think Fipila cross-checked Leddy on the Wings second goal.

Then in OT, Toews gets interefered with by a 5th Wing, but no TMMOTI is called and Finally, Montador gets mugged by Franzen on the OT goal.

Just want to know why it is only ok for certain teams to be allowed to crash the net or shove defenders into their own goal on such a consistent basis. Seems like the same teams that the NHL has obvious bias towards are allowed to do so....for years.

Also, Troy, I love you an all, but to say in the post game that the TMM in OT should not be called because the refs did not want to affect the outcome of the game is stupid. Not calling it affected the outcome regardless.

Oh well, they played well and got a point. On to Columbus. Play like they did tonight and they will win 9-1.

I already responded in the other Wings thread (Ton why don't we close that one huh?).

Montador was not mugged, he put his stick in Franzens legs, and Franzen played on. He wasn't holding the stick at all. Montador fell to the ice when Franzen turns his own body for the puck and because Montador doesn't let go, goes with his stick and to the ice.

Upon further review, Datysuk was actually being covered by Kane, who decides that even though there is a goal mouth scramble for the puck, he's going to go cover the dman, who isn't in the play and leave Datysuk wide open. Maybe he thought Hossa was going to take him. I don't know.

I would not be so upset at those missed calls if there were not so many, and so many allowed by the wings over the years.

Hell, I knew it was going to be an interesting night when Brunette was called for boarding. If and when Brunette actually boards anyone he will only hurt himself as well.

Watching the replay, I agree, though the Hawks should have been on a PP from the Wings TMM the refs didn't call 20 seconds earlier.
