I never ***** about officiating. ABSOLUTELY NEVER, but they did not help our cause tonight. I still think we are a physical dman away from being dangerous. Our forwards are great when they are healthy. I really think Frolik will get out of this funk and compete for a top 6 spot. Bickell I would put on waivers. He makes the least amount of money on the team and it won't be a huge hit if we sent him to the minors.

Call up Smith or Morin and put them on checking line duties with Bolland and Frolik. Hell, I bet Olesz would give a better effort then Bickell.

This just goes to show you that games NOW are just as important as games in march and early april. Not putting away the Avs and Oilers could cost us the division. So could any other losses... but every point is a big point and you have to cash in on those weaker teams. MUST Beat CBJ tomorrow.

Oh well this kind of stretch hits every team at some point during a season and have no doubt the Hawks will bounce back.

Really hope they finish january strong at home because its going to be a brutal february.

The turning point in this game was in the 1st where a very obvious tripping to Seabrook (which almost killed him) was not called and his slashing penalty was. Instead of a 2-0 game and 4 on 4 hockey it ended up 5 on 3 and as the 1st penalty expired it ends up 2-1.

It gave Detroit life and momentum. One of the worst officiated games I've seen in a long time (though #38 in the Edmonton game 1/2/12 was really horrible also.)

No doubt. When 2 goals against in a 3-2 game are a direct result of missed called then you are allowed to ***** about officiating aslo.

Leddy's back eats lumber on the 2nd goal against (totall cross check penalty) and there is no excuse for missing that call other than just not wanting to call it.

Too many men on the ice on the OT goal as clear as day.

And correct me if I am wrong here but i thought when a defensive player put his hands on the puck in the crease while the puck is clearly going into the net it's not a penalty shot..it's an automatic goal. Thought I have seen that call before. I may be smoking something though.

Just nonsesnse no excuse missed calls. They happen from game to game but these ones are unacceptable.

As much as this stretch of losses starting Edmonton has aged me rapidly, we can't sit here and cry over something we can never control and thats reffing, I am and was the first to say years ago when all laughed at me when I said Refs control the outcome of a game and depending on the month and the race for the division, yes we are not playing our best, but my god if last nights game would not make you agree with me then your all blind. That game clearly shows you that they are trying to keep a aging and a team in the wings which looks like its coming to an end in it for the Division race. You can call me what you want but every year the refs and the NHL make eaiser to see what Im talking about. Q will have a heart attack if this shit keeps going, wow was he going ape shit. Im am telling you this sport is going to put me in the hospital, I can't go through is all the time. My reaction to these losses puts an anger in me that ruins my day and the day of my family.

I don't know the actual rule as I learned it yesterdayon that penalty shot, but to further go with what you are saying. I thought the whistle only blows when a goalie covers the puck not a player. And if thats not the case then why can a player cover the puck in regular play when he is on the ice covering it and not get a whistle for 8 -10 seconds, clearly its the same thing here. Am I crazy to think that. Its not the goalie covering the puck you keep playing, and the puck came out too on top of that! I can't remember to many games that can top this in the worest and clear as day making sure the other team wins.

In the post game about 4 or 5 games ago (Edmonton?) Q called out the officials for an obvious no call goalie interference on Crawford and other missed calls. Since that game the officiating has sucked more than usual!!

I"ve never been one for conspiracy theories but are the refs giving some payback to Q for his criticism ?

The Philly game is a prime example. Only penalty called on Philly was DoG. Philly goes on power play final 2 min of the game.

This used to be the case with me, too, but I've had to get over it. Not easy at all, but to let it ruin your day and affect others around you is senseless...

One could also argue that the 'hawks paid for *years* after Lysiak did what he did. I don't think it's too far of a stretch. The other side was Gillis bitching about the officiating and the refs caving.

I think the biggest problem is that if the officiating is criticized by the league on good calls vs bad calls and good non-calls vs. bad non-calls, it's a complete mystery to the fans and as such, there seems to be no accountability for the officials. I think there needs to be a least a little transparency to handle the quality of officiating--even if it's to say xxx and yyy refs and www and zzz linesmen were assigned to officate the Winter Classic/Heritage Classic/Allstar game/Playoffs/Stnaley cup because they showed the most consitancy in making the right calls and non-calls and the least amount of bias toards given teams/divisions/conferences.

Either that or a special officiating review comittee that looks at games specifically for officiating--what good calls did they make on replay, what bad calls, what good non-calls, and what bad non-calls.

As for the non-calls.

The Filpula cross check- no wing touched the puck after the check, so no call. Conversely our first goal Keith took out a wing player before taking the pass so that technically should've been interference. Also seabrook covered the puck in the crease during the first period. Finally that trip seabrook had, it looks really bad when looking at a single view down the length of the ice. But the other replay angle, with it zoomed it on lidstrom taking a shot I can't see any contact by holmstrom and it look's like he's a good 6 feet ahead of holmstrom. Did you ever wonder why during the 3rd period Eddy O switched from saying Seabrook was tripped to saying he was going all out to block the shot/playing fearlessly? I think someone finally pointed out the second replay to him.

That's not a rule is it? Otherwise goals waived off for goalie interference wouldn't be so rampid. There was no call on Filpula because there was simply no call on Filpula. A player doesn't have to touch the puck for a goal to be waived off via penalty. No arms went up signaling a penalty at all. It was a botched missed call, really has nothing to do with any Wing touching the puck to make the play dead.

Agree though calls are missed on the Hawks all the time. However I can't say I recall a game where 2 important goals for the Hawks were a direct result of 2 obvious missed calls on the Hawks. I am sure it has happened but I can't think of the last time I have seen it.

Where in the rule book does it state this?

Conversely our first goal Keith took out a wing player before taking the pass so that technically should've been interference.

Technically, yes. As in technically the weakest interference in front of the net on a PP.

Also seabrook covered the puck in the crease during the first period.

The Eddie that you note in your post indicated during the telecast that the play did not warrant a penalty shot.

I believe you have mistaken one dbag (Pierre) for another dbag(Eddie). Besides, Seabrook was clearly tripped on the play.

BTW, welcome to the board.

Wasn't there a game last year against Wankouver where not only did a linesman botch an obvious offsides but also Luongo took a page out of Mary-Kate and Ashley Sedin's book and enter a tranq-induced collapse much like a bear in Downtown Vancouver when Brouwer skated 6" from him?
