I've watched this replay several times now. In part I agree with Tippet here, it was contact to the head. HOWEVER.....Shaw turns his head to avoid taking a stick or a puck to his face, and in so doing makes no intentional move towards Smith to "take him out." As a matter of fact, coming around the boards, Shaw keeps his hands on his stick and keeps his stick on the ice...so where that meets the criteria for a major, someone please explain it to me. The act by Smith after the hit was priceless, and I agree, the NHL really needs to start doling out penalties for the embellishment/diving a bit more.
Here is a question, that maybe you goalies out there can answer....isn't it a penalty if your fight strap isn't attached??? Why the hell isn't Smith's? is there no where to attach it on goalie's sliders??
