If Crawford can just stop those Huet goals, he'd be fine. He'd be exactly what the Hawks need. Just be league average, no need to be a world stopper. Those cost too much for when the difference between them and a league average goalie is negligible and hurts you from surrounding them with talent, especially when in the playoffs any goalie on any team can outplay a Lundqvist, a Rinne, a Miller, etc. You don't need a 5 or 6 or 7 million dollar cap hit for a player that goes the way the rest of the team goes. No thanks.

Never once said to give up on him.

Said he isn't/hasn't "outplayed" Smith in the series

my bad, I've been lurking a few other Hawks boards since the playoffs began, and get confused from time to time haha. The amount of people who legit want to trade for Luongo and then a few years down the road "Invest in a young goalie" (which is what we are doing now) Is astonishing.

I still think he is outplaying Smith in the quality vs quantity spot. The stats don't speak for themselves.

I think it's been a very close battle when it comes down to it. I wouldn't categorize one ahead of the other at this point, both have made great saves, both have given up soft goals.

I'm racking my brain trying to actually remember a save that didn't just hit Smith. His rebound control is shit (not like he kicks them to the boards like Crow has been known to do) but he just leaves them sit in the blue paint and can't find them. Hawks need to take advantage of that.

Traffic is key for sure. Get bodies to the net and good things will happen. Smith is a headcase when you put pressure on him.

I didn't know that, I've only seen him snap and lose his temper every time a goal gets past him.

And theres the meltdown in Tampa

i think we just agreed on a goalie topic!!!!!

Strange day...strange day indeed.

Ill be out of my head if this org ever goes the road of high goalkeeping contracts. There is never a need for that anymore. There are endless good goalie prospects out there that can fill a void for cheap. I think cory has a good fair contract. There is no need for any team to pay a goalie anything over 3-4 mill a season. Unless your name is the preds.

Save that cap hit for blueliners and centers in my opinion.

I don't necessarily remember all of the hawks' goals this series but the Toews goal was the only one I can think of that challenged Smith and Smith came up short. A lot of the goals to go to OT weren't his fault.

I was making reference to the first Toews goal, the one in game 1 that was weak.

Also Bollig's goal comes to mind.

Like I said at the beginning of the Series if the Hawks stars played like they can it should have been a lot easier. They didn't and you have what you have.

Hossa 3 games nothing

Sharp 5 games nothing

JT 2-3 for 5pts, first game and last game good.

Kane Zero goals but set up 4 and was in on 3 others, but still NO goals.

No production or lack of production from those and you have what you have.
