Buy out will be higher than what it would have been last summer because Olesz turned 26 in October. The first 2 yrs not a bad hit, but the last 2 is a pretty decent hit.

Rostislav Olesz buyout from CapGeek.com
  • 2012-13: $500,000
  • 2013-14: $250,000
  • 2014-15: $1,375,000
  • 2015-16: $1,375,000

You could be right but there was something about that said at the time he was dealt for Campbell.

How the **** do guys like Olesz get no trade clauses?

That sort of shit ruins business for everyone. I have real issues with the no trade clause.

That one has to be looked into. There should be certain requirements players have to meet before any agent is able to negotiate a no trade clauses with teams (I believe they should be reserved for elite players only who have showed their worth). There should also be a stipulation that if said player with a no trade clause ever waives it to be delt that it then becomes void on that players new team. No trade clauses should be binding btw the player and the club he signed that clause with. No other team should ever have to bare the burden of a no trade clause they never agreed to with said player.

As long as this is a cap based system in the NHL. Things like the no trade clause HAVE to be re-evaluated. It's just another handcuff on teams trying to work within a cap system. Just my opinion.

Crazy?

I could be wrong too, I could have sworn players on IR have been traded before -- maybe it wasn't in the NHL though?

I thought they could be traded, but I thought they required a physical from the other team.

Definitely happens in other sports but cannot remember it happening in hockey. I think Peavy was traded when on IR, that worked out well...

the original Ryan Smyth trade to Edmonton this summer was stopped because the player traded was injured, and they had to work out another deal if I'm not mistaken.

They may have tried to pass him off as healthy goods but he failed the physical. I am sure if the injury is disclosed then there probably is no problem to trade an injured player.

Not crazy at all, it is called a mutual agreement. No rule is needed, it is called a fair market. Also their is a new CBA negotiation coming up and if the owners want something like you are proposing then they will have to put it on the table and see if the union bites.

Otherwise it is up to the team to just simply say no.

I think the issue with the buyout was that it couldn't be done since he was on the IR.

It went through. It was Colin Fraser. They settled for some monitary compensation. Just recently.

I contacted CapGeek about Olesz and his NTC:

"I don't have any information about that clause, but even if it did exist

as you describe, it vaporized when he was traded on June 24. This is

explained in our FAQ."

Here is the explanation:

"If a player waives a clause to accept a trade to a new team, it is rare he will do so without a promise that the acquiring team will continue to honour the clause. Brad Richards, when traded from Tampa Bay to Dallas in 2007-08, is an example of this. However, if the player is traded before a clause has kicked in, that clause is automatically ruled void."

TCD's dream is actually a reality.

Well... kinda, if I was understanding you correctly TCD you were saying that anytime a player waives his no trade clause it should be void for the rest of the contract correct? In this case Olie never waived it, he was traded before it kicked in so it voided itself. Which I also agree with I guess...

It should be said that I agree with you as well. If a player waves his no trade clause it should be gone until a new contract is negotiated. So if he wants it back he has to at least get an extension. I actually like NTC in certain circumstances... It empowers the player a bit to not have to uproot his family if he doesn't want to.

New rankings out... "Value" of the team per forbes is up another 2% this year. So it's slowed down it seems but still growing. Think it was 13% last year for obvious reasons so that's still 15% in two years. Top 6 or 7 in all categories. 20-30 mill short of the next list makers so that's going to take another cup. haha. course I would imagine Boston got a boost for the cup. I am too lazy to track down the list from last year that I was looking at earlier.

You'll also notice they are one of three teams that have a 0% in debt/value equation which includes arena debt.

EDIT: to me, just by looking at the numbers, I'd say NJ is the worst off team.
