John Scott has been traded to the New York Rangers for 5th round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Scott, 29, appeared in 29 games for the Blackhawks this season collecting 48 PIM and 1 assist. In his career, he has gained 231 PIM along with 1 goal and 4 assists in 140 regular-season games.

"I thought I’d be the last person to get traded. I don’t really see myself as a deadline-deal guy you try to go out and get but I guess I am" Scott said with a smile, "I’m excited to go to New York but also sad to leave Chicago."

The Blackhawks lost some character in the locker room today. While Scott only averaged 6:56 TOI per night, he will be missed. That said, the organization is more than comfortable with Jamal Mayers' ability to step up and protect the players.

Another stupid move by Bowman. He's getting good at these.

Hawks must be the softest team in the league now. Pity to see Scott go but with Q's crazy ice time it's no surprise.

I don't really know what was the point of this trade. Is it to stop Q from dressing Scott and playing him only for ~5mins instead of a real D-man that can eat 10 mins at least? Scott being a liked player in the dressing room could show that Bowman does not know the teams pulse and chemistry and could be a reason why they have been so bad. He doesn't know how to bring in the right characters.

Another brilliant move by Bowman. He really has little idea what he is doing.

Well if he's not going to get playing time here... I'm glad he's going somewhere that he will get playing time.

BTW, the Hawks got a better return on Scott (5th rounder) than the Wings did for Commodore (7th rounder).

Scott is going to have much more of a use in the East than the West. Especially when the East goes through Pittsburgh/Philadelphia/Boston.

It's a really good return for a guy that plays 3 minutes a night... that said, I don't see why we needed to get rid of him.
