Now there are multiple media reports that, during a team meeting about this yesterday, Chris Sale went off on KW for making this decision.

Sticking up for a teammate is a good thing. But Sale is wrong. Kids do not belong in a major league locker room other than on special occasions. Locker rooms are for players and coaches and trainers only. Whats next? I want to bring my wife in> My mom wants to see my teammates shower? It is really ridiculous.

Kids have always been in the dugout. How do you think Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr spent time with their Dads?

Baseball clubhouses are a much different place, though. And teams do try and accommodate families more than other leagues might because they play a 162-game schedule.

If only we could get HHM back in our clubhouse

Makes a huge difference. It's outrageously selfish for Laroche to expect his kid be in someone elses workplace every day plus the team plane.
So if they don't belong, why did Sale get pissed? Omelette doesn't know enough about this.

Did they get a locker in the clubhouse next to their dads? Did they go on road trips with the team? Did they spend every minute of spring training with the team? Drake did.

Why did he get pissed? Probably because this resulted in one of his teammates retiring, and I'm guessing that he liked LaRoche being in the locker room. I don't think anyone can blame Sale for being pissed off about this, but I also don't fault KW and the Sox organization for doing what they did.

The only real problem here is the timing of it. But I think that can be attributed to the (alleged) players who spent some time in spring training, saw what was going on, and then went to KW to get it changed because they didn't like it. And they also have every right to do so.

LaRoche comes off as self entitled, surprising he left 13 mil on the table. KW told him to just cut back on bringing his son, not completely stop.

I just heard Waddle and Silvie talking aboot this and reportedly Sale told Kenny to GTF out of the clubhouse at yesterdays team meeting.

Sure they have but it is a question of degree is it not? Having a kid in the locker room day after day after day is ridiculous. I don't know why the White Sox allowed this to happen in the first place. What happens, for example, if LaRoche gets into it with another player? Also, don't you think that kids belong with kids their own age instead of adult men saying and doing what adult men do? I do. What happens if two or three other players want their kids in the locker room also?

This truly is an amazing story from beginning to end. The Sox were stupid to allow it in the first place and LaRoche has be questioned also for his wanting his own kid in a major league locker room secondly. ANd now LaRoche is "taking a stand" putting FAMILY FIRST? He is an idiot. He was asked to "dial it back" by Williams who I certainly do not a like for but LaRoche is ridiculous.

I agree. I commented on kids should not be allowed in the locker room. If I had to take a guess, Laroche figured he was at the end of his career, made his money and this gave him an out, because he just wants to be with his family at this point (I could be wrong and obviously I am speculating on that one). It was a deal made previously and there is a different team this season. KW decided to be the bad guy, because someone/more than one wanted a change in the locker room atmosphere.

Hawk, if I had to guess what set Sale off is that KW is no longer around the locker room and he probably thought it should have been handled by Ventura or Hahn (something along this line was discussed on 670 earlier this evening, if I heard the monologue correctly). I think it is a bit odd to expect it to be every day, but we don't know why this was allowed in the first place, so it is all speculation. Provided everyone remains professional and this blows over, I have to ask Sox fans how much the retirement hurts the Club?

-80%

It helps the club in more ways than one.
1) You allow the Men to be Men without a child around
2) You get rid of a bat that really seemed to be at the end of the line
3) You get $13 million to do something with now or more than likely closer to the deadline if the team is competitive
4) You get a chance to rest guys like Abreu, Eaton, Lawrie, Frazier, Melky, Avi by having them DH from time to time
5) Carlos Sanchez becomes a member of the roster providing great flexibility

I wish the LaRoches well.
