Fields still has potential. He's a slow developer in certain areas, or he might have a critical low ceiling. My message to the Adam Rank draft capital folk is: your QB is still your most determinative team-ceiling player. Look at Cutler. Bears couldn't even win a championship because of his ceiling. Some really good stuff here from Adam Rank joining the CHGO podcast guys.
Chicago Bears Twitter CIVIL WAR: Adam Rank on Justin Fields vs Caleb Williams | CHGO Bears Podcast
The fighting has reached a new level amongst Chicago Bears fans. Keep Justin, draft Caleb. Adam Rank has been a big supporter of Fields. He joins to start th...www.youtube.com
I don’t agree with everything he says, but he’s a really earnest good dude, and I enjoyed this episode.
Some highlighted comments:
-Poles has likely already made up his mind on Fields, and Rank believes if he moves off of Fields, it will likely happen before free agency.
-Matt Eberflus’ future is still wide open. Rank seems to actually be a little pessimistic on Eberflus staying, saying that a constant theme for the Bears during his tenure—win or lose—is coming into a game unprepared. Closing has obviously also been a big bugaboo. A loss to Green Bay, especially if the Bears look bad while losing, could be it for Eberflus.
-Rank loves Caleb Williams, says it’s ridiculous to compare him with other top QBs in recent years. He’s a “much better” prospect than the likes of Bryce Young. He also says Caleb Williams will be a “great” QB in the NFL.
^^^At the same time, he says even though he thinks Williams will be great, it’s a question of whole-roster building. Taking Caleb Williams is in essence costing you 3 first rounders (I disagree with him on this logic, but see where he’s coming from). So taking Williams has the potential to cost you greatly in your quest to build a great team.
-Aside from trading Justin Fields before free agency, the single biggest thing that will indicate the Bears are moving on from Fields is if they sign or trade for a good WR before the draft, because that would indicate they’re not taking MHJ (I again disagree with him here, but I get it. In fact, I would argue that the single biggest sign of the Bears moving on from Fields would be if they fire Eberflus on Black Monday, which I personally don’t think will happen.)
-He talks about how it’s a shame that a fanbase with as much passion, history and tradition as the Chicago Bears has become a cesspool of personally attacking people who disagree with you. It’s possible to disagree and not devolve into name-calling, he says. (I agree, but I would just add that that’s not unique to Bears fandom, and in the age of social media, it’s inevitable—in sports, in life, in politics, in entertainment, etc.)
Anyway, thought some of you might enjoy this episode.

I still think it's a no brainer to sign Fields to the 5th year option and take the best QB in the draft.
Rookie QB may be a slower developer too. Maybe the OL takes a slew of injuries and you don't want to shell-shock the rookie. Maybe the rookie gets injured. Shit happens.
Don't force the rookie to start Game 1. Instead, get Fields a new OC and let them compete.
As usual, pencil Fields to start, and see if he can bitchout with the new OC. Over the next two years, hopefully one or both are a franchise QB. If you have two great QBs, then trade the lesser QB for draft capital.
Can you make your posts a bit shorter plz? Thx in advance!Lighten up, MJ, it's an old shoopster joke that you'd remember if you tried. Besides, how do I argue with a tweet from the Justin Fields Fan Club or some intern you dug up on X?
I think my opinions on Fields are already documented here, so there's no reason to continue to argue. Additionally, I think he's gone, so I'm starting to think about the future. Pudge Poles is on a roll(s) and has a tremendous opportunity in front of him. That's where the shoopster's at.
I will say one thing I've said several times before that no one seems to remember or give me credit for saying - Fields was screwed here. The Bears fvvked up his career. Now he's gotta go elsewhere and save it, no easy feat in the NFL. I'm sure he's tremendously disappointed in how this has turned out and also pretty pi55ed, so like so many other ex-Bears who have made their way through the dysfunction and found real NFL teams on the other side, he'll probably look back and say this is for the best. I don't think he'll ever be "elite," but he'll have a good NFL career, and probably get opportunities to start somewhere as the years go by. Maybe even next year.
The Bears have a terrible reputation amongst NFL players for reasons like this, not (only) because they're cheap or because Soldier Field is a dump or because their ownership is a collection of out-of-date old codgers - but (primarily) because they hire undeserving Head Coaches who have no idea what they're doing and try to have them learn on the job, negatively impacting playing careers. Trubisky is content enough - actually prefers - standing on the sideline holding a clipboard. There was probably no saving him. But in Fields, the Bears fvvked up a legitimate NFL player. He'll survive, but has been done a tremendous disservice. At least he got the money . . .
