He got about a $350K raise though. Being paid like a rookie on the roster now, almost $500K instead of the $136K he was making.

He could have been paid 500k to play for the best team, best coach, and the best OL coach in the NFL.

Maybe he does have a better chance of starting here, but with the Patriots OL problems I am not sure about that.

He's from Notre Dame, so that may have played into it, as well as a commitment from the Bears.

I get what you're saying though.

Why would you turn down a spot on the Super Bowl champs’ roster to stay on the Bears’ practice squad? They *had* to have told him he’s getting elevated soon, and he knows his chance at a long-term spot is greater with the Bears than with the Pats.
