the guy is worthless to us now. Why do we need him? He can't field, he strikes out to much he is owed a shitload of money he is injury prone, we still have byrd, we have Jackson coming up we have Colvin. Where does he fit on this team? You think other teams don't know we want to get rid of him for whatever we can? Do I know baseball? Yeah I know how to play it to. I doubt you ever even stepped on a field let alone have the brains to figure out our team blows right now and learn to speak proper english. but hey im the idiot here my bad.

Tyler Colvin Fucking Blows.

I seriously want to see you run a team. I really wanna see it. It would be hilarious to watch the amount of failure you would succeed. Byrd is average with 1 year left and what 7 mil left? Soriano is a bum who cant field cant hit for any sort of average decent power and no speed at all. Oh and he is owed 3 years and 54 million bucks. Byrds more favorable for us then soriano is for us right now.

Byrd contract is more favorable correct BUT Soriano is more productive. Here is a question for you. If Cubs eat 40 mil of Soriano deal for next 3 years that makes him around 5-6 mil per year ball player. Who has more value, Byrd at 1 yr 7 mil or Soriano 3 yrs at 5 mil per?

To the first part, Soriano is not more productive, all-around, than Byrd.

Secondly, Byrd has more value @ 1/7. Soriano's gonna be even MORE terribler in 2 years...

I take Sori 25 HR 80+ RBI over Byrd 10 HR 50 RBI any day. Byrd or Soriano dont steal. Only thing would be the DEF. Both have bad OBP

But the defense is a BIG difference...

And his numbers are sustainable, while Soriano's only decline at this point.

There is a reason why you don't make decisions for the team and they do.

byrd is overall more productive than soriano

all soriano is good at now is power hitting(its inconsistent as hell though thats the problem)

base hitting not great....defense is a liability...cant steal anymore

byrd can do everything....not anything exceptionally well..but he is a well-rounded player...

his base hitting has declined a bit from last year where he was probably the best hitter on the team(now castro has pretty much taken that crown for the next couple of years)

byrd is 34 and soriano is 35 so they're both not too young

Only thing that Byrd does better then Soriano is Avg (which who cares when OBP around the same) and better DEF! Soriano better power, better arm, better in RBI situations, etc

I'm honestly done wasting my time arguing with a person who can't use common sense and learn to realize when he is wrong it's a waste of my time to even try to read your posts anymore

arm as to what?

i agree about the RBI situations but marlon gets on base pretty well

soriano is only good for power though...thats the issue he's limited dimensionally while byrd is well-rounded...although he may not excel at anything really...he is a solid power hitter..solid base hitter...solid defender(the biggest difference)...solid awareness...etc.

No I'm just sick of arguing over the same thing over and over again clearly I'm not gonna change my opinion and clearly you aren't gonna change yours so why waste the time? And considering I live in Pennsylvania I catch as many as I can when they play on WGN or ESPN or against the phillies or pirates other then that I'm very limited in how much I can watch of them over here. Doesn't mean anything I still know whats going on and keep up

Not to be dick but i watch 125 + games a year. I see these guys day and day out. You can ask my wife, she thinks i love baseball more then her most days. I read any article i can find on Cubs. I watch all press conferences. I do feel i know the game better then most fans. Yes its ok we have different opinions, great thing about baseball. Just sometimes hard me to hear guys who dont know the game as well argue with me. I agree Cubs have a long way to go to win but no one saw this team winning after 2006 and they did. It can happen if built right. Im sorry but Cubs should never have to rebuild as you say. They have to many resources. They draw 3 mil + every year cause its the Cubs. So to say they are in rebuild mode is just 100% wrong. They are more in an overhaul mode then anything. Theo and Hoyer will want to bring in some of its own guys. I understand that. As a fan its just going to be hard to see A-Ram leave when we all know its going to be a huge downgrade. Hard to say that Figgins makes more sense then Z when Cubs need SP just as badly as the next team. People think i just want to spend money likes it nothing but i just want the Cubs to do what they should do as a big market team that has 3 mil + fans every year. They should be spending around 140 mil every year on payroll. Espicially now that they cant go nuts in the draft like they thought. Today on CSN offseason baseball show 3 guys said that the Cubs will be bigger players on market cause of new CBA. Honestly there only 1 contract holding the Cubs down now and its Soriano. Z and Demp are gone at end of year so they can backload some contracts this offseason to help them this year and future.

Just because they have money doesn't mean they have to spend it though. They can explore multiple different options. It'd be kind of cool if they got Fielder and/or Pujols, won't lie to ya :D

I agree there are some guys i wouldnt spend money on. I also think there are guys like Fielder that i would. Not to many 27 y/o 1B studs hit the market every year.

The fact of the matter is that nobody--not us fans, not the media--knows what the Cubs' plan is. It's still fun to debate each side, but saying that "the Cubs must absolutely do X" like the media has or certain fans do is premature at this point.

On the subject of Soriano, I think most GMs, even the stupid ones, will see him as an albatross and likely will not give a lot back in a prospect package even if the Cubs threw money in. The Cubs will basically be lucky with a straight salary dump.
