I love watching NFL, college basketball, and some college football games. I love playing baseball/softball, basketball and would probably enjoy soccer but haven't been able to play much.

the thread title is hilarious. "AMERICAN football > any sport in the WORLD."

Clearly that's not the case. We play the universal game (soccer), and no one else plays american football.

Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, even rugby are played all over the world. American football may be > any sport in America (in our eyes), but saying it is > any sport in the world is just silly.
No, really, it's better than any sport in the world. If the rest of the world doesn't realize it, they're all just stupid.

I love watching football, but the biggest criticism from people who are not fanatics is that the game is so damn slow. Score, commercials, kickoff, commercials, timeout, commercials, challenge, commercials, injury, commercials.

That isn't a fault with the game, it's a fault with the way the game is delivered to it's consumers.

It gets worse every year. It's supply and demand.

International sports are fun to watch. Who wouldn't want to watch those Russian girls curling?

Yes, because 1-0 soccer games are so riveting. Constant action. Guy hits bal with head. Another guy runs after it. Another guy chases him and it goes out of bounds.

Another guy picks it up and throws it. Two guys hit it with their heads. 14 minutes later, a guy actually does something that resembles and actual shot towards the goal

But hey, the clock doesn't stop.

I would argue that NHL hockey - truly a global sport - if as in 'global' you mean a way to make Canada relevant - is equally as exciting as the NFL. I watch at least 4-5 NFL games each week and probably as many NHL. DVR them and you can fast forward and watch them in about 50 minutes

my church has a rugby team, I was thinking about joining but I am only 170 lbs and these guys are pretty competitive. does rugby have room for dudes that are more built like db's or do you have to get beefy?

I usually beef up about 10-20 lbs in the winter anyways so maybe I'll be ready lol.

No one believes that you go to church. ;)

Also, how do we define 'sport'? For example, is golf a 'sport'?

And then we can add motorsports. Over the last 5 years, that's become my thing. I'm on the track as much as humanly possible. Fortunately, in Chicago land, we have 4-5 proper road courses that are relatively close. So if I can get away on a Saturday or Sunday, that's where I'm at.

That being said, do I think throwing a 1,950 pound car around a turn is tantamount to shedding the block of a 350 pound lineman or dragging Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes? Nope.

Hell, as much as I love European cars and racing, I can't watch more than 15 minutes of F1 or rally before changing the channel.

Except he contends american football is the most "intense, crazy, euphoric" sport in the world. With all the soccer hooligans and riots that break out at soccer games, I'd have to disagree. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't the truth.[/QUOT
Yes, but much of that has to do with the fact that soccer is played on every corner of the globe and every spec of humanity has a pro and/or national team. Football is effectively payed (the right way) in one country. Also add that, football is a pretty difficult game to play with multiple positions, rules, body types, etc. Even more so for baseball and basketball. X1000 for hockey. Anyone who has ever coached kids sports can tell you this. Most kids don't have he physical ability to shoot a basketball or throw an accurate forward pass or get a pitch over the plate, let alone hit one. Any kid can play soccer in about 8'seconds and you just need a ball and the ground

More sheer ignorance, and all because you just don't "get" soccer. It's the height of arrogance to rubbish things others love passionately and get all the same things from that you get from football and hockey. It's all about personal taste. It's all subjective.
Watching you embarrassingly downplay the game is similar to listening to my UK friends rubbish American football.

"Just a bunch a fat pussies in space suits who can't run a hundred yards without needing an oxygen mask".

"Rugby for ******s who need body armor ".

"LOL @ a sport that's so exciting that people talk about the commercials more than the game".

"Garbage entertainment for drooling morons with the attention span of a gnat, who can't focus on something for 5 minutes without being reminded that they exist to buy bud light and salute their flag".

I've heard all the ignorant, uninformed stupidity on that side of the pond about American football. Thank goodness I have the likes of FBHNP, bearsbud and desperado to remind me that ignorance about "other people's sports/culture" is not limited to Britain.
