Man, am I the only one that loves baseball anymore?
I used to love it in my younger days but as the years went on it just got to be too boring for me. Why'd they start going after all those guys on steroids? They made it more fun.

Yes you are. Playing is one thing, but watching is coma-inducing.

I love putting on the game when I'm thinking of taking a nap on the couch. Works like heroin.

I like to watch golf when I'm baked. I can lose myself in it for hours. In fact that sounds like a plan for this afternoon since the Bears aren't on.

Now that I think if it, perhaps I don't like football as much as I thought. I have watched exactly zero non-bears NFL games this year, and that's likely to continue though the playoffs and Superbowl. I'd rather watch the golf.

The strategy in American football in unmatched by other sports. A smart team can overcome physical limitations.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
I was going to tell you guys all the awesome things about soccer...but just as I was about to type it, a stiff breeze blew through, causing me to fall to the ground clutching my hamstring in apparent agony. Now I've forgotten all the stuff I was going to say.

Just discovered this thread.
First of all, I'm European and I think we should all agree that I know soccer (I'll just force myself to call it soccer for now) better than you do and you know football better than I do.
I LOVE both football and soccer. I really do. My two favourite sports.
The strategy in American football in unmatched and the actual games are never boring as is the case with soccer sometimes.
Soccer can get boring, but can also be as intense and heartbreaking as football and requires skill and tactics as well.
As much as I love football (I've stayed up late, and I mean really late like 4,5 am numerous times just to watch Bears games), soccer will always be the king of sports for me.

Let me explain why; Football requires certain things for potential players. I mean, let's be honest, it's very rare you see a 5'5'' guy play football. Even if you're not that small, you still need to be really muscular. A skinny dude would never be able to play football.
Also, football just like Basketball, Tennis, Baseball, Hockey require an equipment and a court/stadium/field/whatever.
On the other hand, you can play soccer literally everywhere and requires zero equipment. It's no coincidence Africans play football. It's because that's the one they can afford.

As far as watching, football is one of the best-if not the best sport. But as far as playing goes, soccer wins it for me.

I've always maintained that the reason for the popularity of soccer is the lack of equipment necessary. Basketball has the same advantage (exempt that you need a hoop).

As far as football requiring certain things from potential players, can't you say the same thing about soccer? I don't really watch it, so I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing a lot of guys who were exceptionally tall. It seems like it would be a disadvantage. And obviously, you don't see really fat guys playing soccer too often.

Here is what I said about baseball and this topic in general .....

" It's all subjective. Personally I love both football games (American football and what the rest of the world calls football) more than any other sports. I can't put one above the other, they're both awesome to me. I can't stand baseball but I'm not going to tell a baseball fanatic that their sport sucks, because obviously it doesn't since it's giving it's hardcore fans just as much excitement and joy as football and soccer give me."

If you take that to mean "soccer is the best, everything baseball related sucks, and everything European is superior" then you're a fucking idiot. I know you're not an idiot though, and can do better if you put your mind to it.

No, it's the same 'euro=better and awesome' smugness you display on myriad threads. You love to paint Americans as some sort of inbred mouth breathers and the on,y possible explanation for an Americsn not liking soccer is because they are ignorant or 'don't get it'. Could it ever occur to you that perhaps people HAVE experienced soccer and simply don't enjoy it? I love many things European including all manner or cars, food and half of my family. Not to mention, having worked for a British company for over 7 years, haven't travelled to various parts of Europe and enjoying many of them.

That being said, I still find soccer frightfully boring. I 'get' soccer. I just don't like soccer.

What's to know about soccer? You kick the ball up and down the field over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Are there people still trying to say that's a sport?

I inadvertently flipped to ESPN during the second half of the GB game. There was poker on. Poker. Please explain how that remotely resembles anything called a sport.

No, there are many tall players (for example Ibrahimovic who is one of the best stikers of our era. Also, most defenders and goalkeepers are tall) and many short ones so height is irrelevant. Of course you have to be fit, as you have to be fit to play most sports, but not as much as football.
I mean unless you are a kicker or a punter, you have to be really REALLY fast, tall and extremelly muscular.
That's not the case in soccer.

Yeah, yeah I get it you hate soccer(or football since you know...it's actually played with feet). The players fake injuries, the games are boring and yet at the same time it's the most popular sport in the world. I bet you've never watched a single game. Or if you have it was a MLS game.
Look, I'm not here to convince you soccer is the best or force you to like it. I'd be stupid if I even tried since I'm in a AMERICAN message board about AMERICAN football. Of course you're gonna say american football is the best sport ever.

Well I've watched a shit load of soccer, had a season ticket at Newcastle for years growing up. Frankly I couldn't care less how many people play or watch it, the fact is that the number of genuine pieces of skill are far outnumbered by instances of these "men" feigning injury and contact. The game is now a fucking embarrassment and more like the WWE than a real sport.

I'm sure there are some tall players, I was just wondering how prevalent they are. I would guess that the percentage of football players under 5'9" is around the same as the percentage of soccer players who are over 6'3" (of course, I have nothing to base that on). For every 6'5" soccer player, there's a guy like Darren Sproles (5'5") or Trindon Holliday (5'6") playing football.

I get what you're saying that the average person would have a better chance of playing soccer than football, but as far as the range of body types is concerned, I'd give the edge to football. There's everything from 5'5" 175 lbs. to 6'8" 350 lbs. You could take a teenage kid with any type of frame and find a place for him on a football team.
