I seriously need to get my ass in year and get my bike serviced. I can change the oil and do usual stuff but my front end shakes when you hit 65 MPH and I think I either bent some spokes or the dickhead who patched my tire in town didn't balance my wheels correctly. Either way, time to get shit rollin

Probably the tire repair, but get it to a mechanic just in case

thanks bud! Do you have a rough estimate how much it costs for a regular scheduled service/maintenance on bikes?

I cant say cause I do almost everything myself...But I had Harley do my 1000 mile checkup 2 years ago..It consisted of all the fluids changed, and an inspection/cable adjustment etc., and it cost $240.00..IMO, that's outrageous but necessary for the warranty which has now expired..Once the warranty was up, I do everything myself. I got a shop manual. It explains everything

BTW..If you replace the spokes on your bike, the wheel needs to be "trued"..That's very time consuming..The Dealer told me its 3 hours labor just for that..$100.00 @ hour charge and yet HD pays it's mechanics about $15.00 @ hour....Ouch!..Id go to an independent

It's not if but when some idiot is going to try and kill you. I was hit from behind while stopped at a red light. I used to review each days ride with a caveat for how many people tried to kill me today. Its crazy how many times someone just didn't see me and i had to react to avoid contact. When on a motorcycle you need to be actively driving when other humans are around.

All that being said I loved riding and will own another someday. Probably a "old man" touring style bike.

I call it actively saving your own life and for some reason it happens everyday on a bike, I think u dont care as much to notice how shit everyone drives until your that vulnerable. I rode in Miami, let me tell you, don;t do that.

I'm going apeshit right now. I got my bike servied and inspected at Motoworks in Chicago. My Dad and I can do majority of the work on the bike(he knows his stuff), but I figured since I bought the bike I haven't had anyone really check it and I want to be good to go.

I was originally quoted at 282 for the service and going over the 18k inspection of the bike. I forgot what it all entails, but I believe a lot you can do by yourself( The guy even told me the biggest thing for 18k is changing oil, which we are doing at home so I told him don't do that); so after I said no oil I get quoted the 282 amount. I explain to the guy that my front end wobbles- so I had them rebalance wheel and adjust the steering head because it was loose, they also verified the ignition timing for me.

COMES UP to 463.00 with SERVICE FEES.

Bearsbud, any of you other guys, is that right? Or am I getting screwed here?? Being quoted at 282 without oil change and then having them check two things adds up to nearly another 200 bucks?? WTF.

463 is a lot..But if it gives you piece of mind to have a pro go over the bike, then it's worth it. If you take it in like that once every 2 years, then wtf ,ya only live once.. And now ya know the bike is right. At least it should be

Yeah, thanks I guess it's nice to have someone look over it. But, I just bought the Haynes manual online and my Dads gonna show me everything so in the future I can do my own work on the bike.

Unreal it cost that much. But yeah, you're right- eased my mind but I don't think I'll be doin that again! woah

Okay, so I'm really ticked off right now. I went over my bill again before I pick up my bike tomorrow, and nothing is making sense. I talked to some other guys on a forum who have dealt with Motoworks and one guy was quoted(as I was) that for parts to be installed for his bike he was looking at $180. When he went to pickup the bike the bill was $370 for the work he was quoted at. He said noone called him or emailed him to let him know that the quoted price is wrong and he's looking at another $170.

When I called I was quoted at $282 for 18k inspection and no oil change needed(said that would have been additional and glad I told them), so they put all my information int he comptuer over the phone. I get there Friday to drop off my bike and again they are putting my information in the computer(looking back- they should have had it already in there); so then I explained AGAIN the no need for oil change and just the inspection and check my wheel balance and timing(both are very easy from my understanding). Noone brought up the quote and I was under assumption as I was told 2 DAYS PRIOR that I was at $282, which is what I put aside.

So now I get my damn bill and it's $470 with no explanation; noone called me, noone emailed me over weekend and it'll be a week ago tomorrow that I dropped it off. I'm paying off student loans and put money aside for the bike but I would've gladly have told them to hold off on looking over the wheels if It was nearly $500 because I still have school stuff I gotta get done. Instead, I am under the assumption of 282 and now looking at 470.

I'm going there tomorrow and explaining what I was quoted at and how this is bullshit.I mean, for christ sake they should've called and told me whatever I was quoted as was wrong and it'll be additional. The guy who got screwed too said he told them what he was quoted at and they honored his quoted price.

Whoa, even in a cage I-95 is a death trap in that area.

Best means I found to not getting hit on a bike, is to assume everyone else is trying to hit you.
