Diet, like everyone says for me too. Mostly alcohol related.

One weird, disgusting little trick. Shoot a half ounce to an ounce of apple cider vinegar. It's the best short term relief I tried.

Why would anyone take medication everyday for heartburn? If you get it no matter what you eat or have an ulcer I guess that's needed.

For me it's Pepcid AC as needed, more accurately the Costco equivalent is called Kirkland Acid Controller, same ingredients but cheaper. I pretty much never have acid reflux, heartburn or anything else anymore. Once in a great while I eat/drink something bad that I didn't prepare for, then feel crappy for an hour waiting for the meds to kick in. 99% of the time I know in advance when I'm going to be eating stuff that causes problems so I take a pill and hour in advance, no problem. I go 2 or 3 weeks without taking any Pepcid AC, then I go to Vegas and eat 2 a day for the whole trip and 2 days after I get home.

Maybe this is a non issue for me because your problems are more serious. It would suck to have to take meds everyday even when you're eating right. It helps me keep track of how often I behave badly, when I'm taking lots of Pepcid AC that means I'm eating and drinking badly, and probably gaining weight, or every pill has 50,000 calories.

I don't know what others went through, but for me it was sort of the first time I really had heartburn.
I went out, had a glass of whiskey with a big ass burger, then came the bloat and lump in throat which lasted for about a week.
Got the over the counter stuff and tried for 3weeks and didn't work.
Then went to doctor. She says it's reflux and prescribed acid reducer (omeprazole 40mg).
Been on it, and like Spartan says, it's miserable due to the side effects, but my eso****us was still acid burnt so had to stay on.
Finally I'm feeling somewhat better, so will wean off the meds and keep my changed diet.
Going in for endoscopy in Jan to make sure it's reflux and not something else.

My bro diagnosed with Crohn's and on meds for it for most of his adult life. He'd often say I had the same thing and doctors had said I should be treated for it. I declined the offer to be treated for it and told bro I could control it without meds just as he could if he wanted to but, no, nobody wants to listen to Spartan when I tell them they don't need the evil pharmaceuticals. He said it was a disease. I said they just say it is so they can take your money and push their drugs on you. It's really just bad shit you're eating that your body will not tolerate.

Long story short, he was on meds for the longest time. I can safely say for well over a decade and was often miserable. He would tell me how bad it felt while eating from a bag of Doritos. Kept telling him it was the junk he was eating and not so much some incurable disease doctors decided to put a name on so they could profit from it. After a concerted effort to see different doctors and try something different he finally hit upon a good doctor who told him to see a nutritionist and change his diet. He did so about 2 years ago and hasn't had a problem since.

What you're saying is absolutely correct.
If it can be treated with non meds it should be considered.
Especially if what's required is just a change in living habbit.

I've tried that and it works, just brutal chugging it.

Edit: Don;t breathe through your nose at all when drinking it.

Alcohol is by far my biggest trigger food. Then the usual things like tomato based foods and spicy foods. Crystallas is 100% right.... the blockers treat the symptoms and not the cause. Change your diet and it'll go away. Then you can gradually add back in the other stuff in moderation. (at least for me I could)

And I don't think it has anything to do with age by the way. Mine was TERRIBLE in my early 20's but at 40 it's not a big problem for me. It's all diet.

Not true. It may decrease it, but it doesn't go away. Tomato based/spicy and all the other shit still got me when I was much healthier in my diet. It just wasn't as severe as when I am overweight. It was definitely still more than a minor nuisance.

I like Zegerid. Milk also does the trick for me if I need real quick relief.

Was scoped in 2015 to make sure no evidence of Barrtett's eso****us. Was told they could place a magnetic band around area of eso****eal juncture/sphincter. Some colleagues talked me out of it due to1) the potential for eso****us tissue erosion from said device, and 2) would disallow me from having MRIs in the future, should the need arise.

Managing with meds and dietary control. Includes the usual trigger foods, inluding bananas (lucky me).

Stil cheat, just have to pay the piper.

The word "Eso****us" is auto censored? Wtf?

I was diagnosed with GERD. Told to take Omeprazole, which gave me explosive diarrhea. Was then told to take another med. Decided to experiment with my diet and cut out a lot of stuff.. Haven't had it in almost 4 years now.
